My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm an easy going guy. I generally keep a positive outlook on things... the glass is always 100% full (doesn't have to be full of liquid). I appreciate many simple things in life; like the natural sounds of evening, a clear night sky, and helping others. I also like some finer things: traveling, eating out at a nice place, attending live theater, and others.

I really like scientific stuff, especially space related... I'm a novice astronomy buff. I enjoy watching the space station cruise overhead on a clear night, and checking out planets with my telescope.

I like to be helpful to others, and thank people when they've been helpful to me. I try not to sweat the small stuff in life. Some people say "it's all small stuff." I appreciate that outlook, but just haven't quite made it there yet. I like the definition of integrity that says "Doing the right thing even when no one is looking."

I'm a bit reserved, so I generally don't make a fuss about minor annoyances. But, when it gets to be more than that, I am very straight forward about speaking up.

I enjoy nature, and prefer to be outdoors when I can enjoy it... not often enough. I am a certified scuba diver... tropical destinations are high on my list. I'm ready to get back into that, as it has been a while. I used to be kind of a thrill seeker. I do less of that now... maybe it's that my definition of thrill has changed.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm a full time single parent of my teen son. Sometimes I feel incredibly rewarded about it, sometimes I am stressed by it. That's ok, I just keep doing the right thing (most of the time). I imagine that I'm somewhat different than the average parent in that I communicate with him openly and honestly, ever since he was young. Now he is in middle school, the questions are more serious, but I decided long ago that I'm going to be straight up with him.

I work full time as a software analyst / test engineer, for a large company locally in Austin. I like my job, and am good at it. Being detail oriented definitely helps.

I like to travel. Generally, we take 1 good vacation trip each year... although, sometimes we can sneak in a second one. In 2012, we went to Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. Like to mix it up... theme parks on occasion, tropical, Texas sites, other places as they pique my interest. Palm Springs snd Anaheim in July 2014. what was I thinking? The desert in the middle of the summer! It was still an amazing experience. Next on the itinerary is Akumal this Winter, and Hawaii in 2015!
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Seeing other points of view, and connecting with people from their prospective. Giving sincere compliments.

I'm also good with technical or mechanical things. I do most of the work on my car. I like to fix things around the house when needed.

I'm generally happy and friendly.

TV: I really like Nova, and similar nature documentaries. Big Bang Theory is really the only sitcom that I'll watch anymore. Breaking Bad was awesome! Also like Orange is the New Black.

Live Theater: I like just about any genre, as long as it is done well. I haven't seen a lot, but really enjoyed: Phantom of the Opera & Pirates of Penzance for musicals (I never thought I would). I am a fan of the Tuna series, which are politically incorrect comedies. I saw The Nutcracker in December 2013 for the first time and really liked that too.

I enjoy a variety of music, though Classic Rock is my mainstay. I've recently started to check out modern artists and eagerly explore some good ones.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
hmmm... I guess the "Air, food, water, shelter, clothing, and companionship" kinds of things are understood. I really don't think there is much of anything else. Sure, there are the things that I'd PREFER to have... The close relationship with my son, my glasses, a car, smartphone, restaurants, and vacations!
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I don't spend time thinking about any particular thing, that often.I do sometimes contemplate if there is a partner for me. One where it doesn't have to feel like work that our relationship be complimentary. One where my mate fills in the gaps in me and I do the same for her. We all need each other. That's why some are artists, and others, entrepreneurs. I am in the middle somewhere. I relate well to both extremes. I guess the trick is not getting too wrapped up in your own thing.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Honestly, I am usually recovering from the week of demands from work, home, family, and self that does not always get to bed on time. this will be the second year that I have season tickets to the Texas Stars hockey, so sometimes we are attending a game.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I've lost weight since most of these pics were taken. Still a little extra, but I'm moving in the right direction!

I've had some laser hair removal (that first thing didn't fit the question).
