I am relaxed, funny, and short.

My Self-Summary

First of all, my friend shortnsuite3 got me to sign up here, so blame her.

I'm a recent college graduate who had been living in Florida for about six years, until classes were finally done, and I moved back up to Massachusetts, which is where I grew up.
I'm currently participating in NaNoWriMo for the fifth time. Maybe I'll actually finish it this time.
Up until the big migration back north, I was taking Shaolin Do Kung Fu and Tai Chi in Tampa, and loving it. I hope to start over again with a new school in the Boston area at the beginning of 2010.
Travelling is one of my favorite things. To celebrate graduation, a good friend and I went backbacking for 4 weeks around Ireland and the United Kingdom. There was no set itinerary, no reservations made before arriving in each new city, and a definately no-frills budget (hello, couchsurfing.com!), but it was just about the best time of my life. So far I've only been to about 6 countries (2 continents), but I have plans to visit dozens more while still in my twenties. My next big trip will be to take my little sister to Paris to celebrate her high school graduation. After that, I'd like to travel around Africa for a couple of months. A more long-term goal of mine is to eventually live on a boat and circumnavigate the globe.

What I’m doing with my life

I recently graduated from USF in Tampa, and now I'm living in Massachusetts again, and after a very long period of working part-time while job-hunting like crazy, I FINALLY just got a full-time position at the American Red Cross.

I’m really good at

Meeting new people and getting around new places. Reading maps. Navigating public transportation. Finding parking spaces. Making people smile (and apparently, being corny).
I am making myself learn how to bake and cook more things from scratch. There are hits and misses. I think I'd like cooking more if there wasn't so much cleaning involved.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'll just assume it's my *ahem* personality. It could also be my height. I'm quite short.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I read a lot, so instead of writing down a list of every book I've ever liked ever for the past quarter of a century, I'll just stick to 2009...

Books I Enjoyed This Year: Frankenstein, Oddest Jobs (anthology of Hellboy stories. I mentioned I was a geek, right?), Girl Interrupted, Don Quixote, Tao Te Ching, A Brief History of Time, The Little Prince, Casanova Was a Book Lover, Wicked, Siddhartha (Hesse), The Metamorphosis (Kafka).
Poetry I Enjoyed This Year: Robert Burns, Robert Frost, Walt Whitman

Movies: Tank Girl, Moulin Rouge, Big Fish, Hellboy, just about any superhero movie (especially Marvel heroes), The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, King Kong (both old version and remake), Chocolat, Amalie, The Fifth Element, Serenity

Last Concert I Went To: The Dead Weather
Next Concert I'm Going To: The Pixies.
Most recent song stuck in my head: Gossip -- "Heavy Cross"

Food: I adore food, and am not entirely picky, although I'm not big on steak or other red meat, for some reason. Seafood is great. So is pasta, pizza, and just about any "ethnic" food (although technically, isn't all food "ethnic" food if it wasn't made by, say, aliens or robots?).

The six things I could never do without

Toothbrush
Comfortable bed
Comfortable shoes
Maps
A few sheets of blank paper (and a writing utensil would be nice)
Complete DVD series of Disney's Gargoyles. Yes, I know it's a cartoon. It just happens to be the Best Cartoon.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

The future. Lately, though, I've been trying to plan less, and do more. We'll see how that goes. It's hard to make a plan to "stop planning."

On a typical Friday night I am

Reading, hanging out at home, or maybe going out to dinner. My current work schedule is a little weird, so my "Fridays" are usually on a Sunday or Monday. My "weekends" are likely in the middle of the week. I hope to fix this.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I've taken a year and a half of Arabic, several years of French, and suck at both. I even suck at Pig Latin.

You should message me if

...if you want to?
Worst that can happen: I flake and forget to check my messages.
Don't worry, I won't attack you. I only use my powers for good nowadays.

Also, I'm just as interested in meeting new friends as anything else, so feel free to message me even if we aren't romantically plausible (women, gay men, etc).
