I am witty, unconventional, and tender.

My Self-Summary

I am a searcher looking for inner peace and authentic relationships. I love to have silly, spontaneous fun, as well as intimate conversation. I am very open with my feelings, when I am comfortable, and I'm a big fan of open, honest communications. I love scrabble and boggle, but when it comes to relationships, no games for me.

I think humor is like the leather-man of interpersonal skills, and mine is dry, with and 80% chance of puns. It is true that I have been told by friends that I have the same sense of humor as their fathers...and I prefer to think of my humor as 'offbeat.' Actually I think bad jokes are the funniest. They're double whammies: I can laugh at the joke, and at how bad the joke is... and now that I think of it, I can laugh at myself for laughing at such a bad joke.

I am definitely a free spirit. I love to travel, and, so far, that has been the thing in my life that has moved me the most. I have moved to a place I had never been , where I didn't know anyone, and loved the adventure of it. I also like art, and physical activity in many forms, like skiing, hiking, or gardening. In terms of work, I am looking for a career or job that fulfills me as well as pays me, that I find incredibly fun and meaningful as well. I like a good mix of fun and seriousness in my life.

What I’m doing with my life

I'm planning on moving to Boston soon. This summer I have been helping my mom work on her house, and I am looking for work in the field of environmentalism/non-profit work, and journalism. Before that, lots of things: Teaching ESL, Pastry Chef, Waiter, Freelance Writer...
Lately I've been sketching again, after a long break. It's very therapeutic.

I’m really good at

Cooking. Getting lost while driving, reading a map, figuring out where to go. Listening to other people. Teaching. Boggle.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm quiet at first, and open up slowly.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Dostoevsky is a favorite, along with lighter stuff like Stephen King, Douglas Adams. I also like Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Philip Roth... I love travel writing, like the non-fiction of Paul Theroux. I love The New Yorker, and lately I have been reading non-fiction journalism, such as Malcolm Gladwell, and Michael Pollan, which really changed the way I eat.

Food: I like it! I really love to cook, and to try new things. I'm a big fan of Indian cooking, because there are so many spices and the flavors seem so mysterious; its very difficult. I also like middle eastern cooking, Italian, and Mexican. I'll eat pretty much anything and don't dislike any cuisines, except fast food/junk food.

Movies> The Passenger, Proof, David Lynch movies, Lost in Translation, Broken Flowers, Igby Goes Down, Brick, Aguirre - Wrath of God, Pedro Almodovar films, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Nueve Rainas, Motorcycle Diaries, Documentaries, Man on Wire..

I hate talking about what music I'm into... it doesn't really make any sense, and I have to just give a long list of pretty much unrelated artists... so, Gillian Welch, Yo la Tengo, the Shins, Manu Chau, Atahualpa Yupanqui, Paul Simon, Classical music: my tastes are not very specific, I just like it, in a general way, but I could name Chopin, and Beethoven; -Velvet Underground, Afro-Pop: Afrodesia, Fela Kuti;

The six things I could never do without

I am not too attached to things, but... Comfortable jeans. Summer. Friends and family. Chili peppers. Greenery: plants, the woods, etc.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Politics, religion, the meaning of existence, art, girls, myself, Foreign countries, food.

On a typical Friday night I am

Going out with friends, or doing something with friends. If I'm alone, I'm probably cooking some complicated ethnic dish for myself and watching a movie...
