I am thoughtful, adventurous, and intelligent.
My Self-Summary
I love
reading and
writing stories
(sci-fi, noir, horror, or anything bizarre or trippy) and playing
guitar. I enjoy
anything
logic
based, and that's probably why I like working with
computers so much. I'm up for
trying almost anything once. In the last few years I've gone
skydiving,
scuba diving,
mountain
climbing, and
backpacked the UK and central Europe.
Next year I'm hoping to climb
Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
I'm consider myself a socially-viable geek--meaning I don't walk
around in Chewbacca t-shirts every day and I can maintain
conversations with others that aren't solely based on
Star Trek references.
I've collected
comic books most of my life, and
despite my English major, I probably read more comics than novels.
I love
museums and
art and anything
creative. Learning is a huge part of my life. If I'm not learning
something new I feel useless, and I've had to figure that out in
the few years since I finished school. I'm not extremely into
sports, but I'm ok with watching a game now and again.
I enjoy discussing religion and philosophy and the supernatural. I
appreciate people who can have intelligent discussions with people
they disagree with without letting it get personal. There are so
many things we don't know and will never know, and arguing over it
is ridiculous. But I'd love to hear your opinion.
I'm from the Midwest. Michigan originally, but I lived in Wisconsin
for a couple years too. Living in the Midwest, even by major cities
like I was, shapes a person in ways I think people who haven't
lived there don't realize. I LOVE big cities, but I feel
claustrophobic if I'm around too many people for too long. The
quiet and the quaint small-townness of all of it both feel like
home and make me want to run away to somewhere where things are
happening and there's excitement and nightlife. I'm almost certain
I'll never return there on a permanent basis, but it's always going
to be home. And compared to the coasts, the lack of major traffic
in the Midwest is fantastic.
What I’m doing with my life
Oh let's see...getting settled in Maryland, keeping up with my
friends, figuring out what I should be doing with my life, working
on my writing, keeping my head above water, drinking, sleeping,
reading all the books I've always wanted to, playing 10 year old
video games (they're like wine, you know), and generally keeping
myself going in a merciless world where success is an increasingly
vague concept.
I’m really good at
Remembering random trivia, fixing computers, being romantic,
solving problems, being a friend, writing, singing, mixing
metaphors, looking up the answers, quoting movies from the 80s and
90s, being skeptical, cuddling, learning, seeing patterns.
The first things people usually notice about me
My sarcastic humor, my shy nature, how I look great in gray, the
fact that I make references that too often no one gets, my eyes.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Books: Norwegian Wood by Huraki Murakami, The Dark Knight Returns,
Animal Farm, The Great Gatsby, The Tao of Pooh, Duma Key, The
Postman Always Rings Twice
Movies: The Professional, Lost in Translation, Adaptation, The Dark
Knight, Sin City, Watchmen, The Departed, The Long Goodbye, Scream,
The Ring
Music: The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Deathcab for Cutie, The Shins,
The Vines, Kings of Convenience, Feist
Food: steak, pasta, bbq pulled pork sandwiches with coleslaw
The six things I could never do without
1. A book
2. A computer
3. Friends
4. My family
5. A good (cold) pillow
6. A guitar
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Existential crap I probably shouldn't be thinking about. Also, how
does Superman fly *faster*?
On a typical Friday night I am
Watching movies/playing video games and drinking with friends.
Occasionally out at a bar. Rarely in bed early.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Captain Kirk is my hero.
You should message me if
you're open-minded and willing to try new things, but still cool
with spending a Sunday on the couch with a blanket watching movies
all day once in a while.
