My Self-Summary
Friends first.
The advice given to me has been to use a screen name for identification. So I do.
Joe is not my true name. Tell you later.
I am about 5'10", 170lb, average build.
My hair is falling out on top - male pattern baldness.
I am low maintenance. It does not take much to keep me contented.
I envision the woman of my dreams will be close to my age.
She will be compassionate, understanding, tolerant, patient, and intelligent.
I am single.
I do not get out or go out much. Perhaps because there
has been no one with whom to enjoy the activities.
I would like to change this and get more often.
I am not very religious, if at all.
I like to play backgammon, cribbage, chess and bridge. I am not an expert, but I enjoy playing them.
I enjoy playing backgammon and bridge with my cousin. I am most comfortable talking with her. Cribbage is the game that I played with my grandmother. Bless her soul. That was fun.
I do not have any children. I do not want any children of my own.
I drink some - Social drinker.
I would like to get out more. Years ago, I enjoyed going camping, hiking, canoeing, and many other outdoor activities. I have a bicycle that I need to ride more.
What I’m doing with my life
It has oak floors, fireplace with wooden mantle and built-in bookcases on each side, with doors that have beveled-glass.
So much more. It needs furniture and several other items to make it more comfortable. The house possesses a magnetic charm that is comforting. It is home. It is a brick house with an enclosed front porch, french doors that lead to the sun room,, living room, dining room, small kitchen, two rooms on the main floor. A stairway leads to the unfinished attic. Lots of storage up there.
The garage needs to be painted, and shelves need to be built.
I am helping care for my parent. She has been bouncing back and forth between the hospital and the nursing home. AND I have been bouncing back and forth between my house, Mom's house, the nursing home, and the hospital. Whew..
I consider myself "underemployed", so I am searching for something new.
I exercise frequently to stay in shape. Treadmill, walking, or even "exercising" out in the yard and garden. i.e. mowing the yard, pulling weeds, etc.
I like to ride my bicycle. Yet I have not gotten out much this year. There are numerous other activities that I must do first. However... I was fortunate to find time to get out earlier this year for the Bike Ride to Rippey (BRR) ride. It is a bicycle trek from Perry to Rippey and back. The unique part about this is.....it is held on the first week-end of FEBRUARY!!!!! Cooooooool,

FOOD
I cook for myself, nothing special.
I like tomato soup. But it is especially enjoyable when I add additional tomato bits with spices. Top it off with crackers, croutons, bread crumbs, or cheese, and that makes it perfect. With that, I am in heaven.
Chili, or spaghetti on a cool autumn evening is delicious. Even more so, if out on a camping week-end.
I enjoy so very much having some wine with a meal. Roast beef, pork chops, chicken, or sirloin steak with wine becomes sheer comfort and joy. WOW.
I love tomatoes. When my grandmother had tomato plants in her garden, she would ask me to pick some tomatoes for dinner. Well...., I would go out and pick some off the vine, but not all of them would make it to the kitchen. hahahahahaha. You know,....fresh vegetables or fruit right off the vine or tree tastes so much sweeter.
When I was younger, our house had an apple tree in the back yard. Ohh, it was a special tree. It had been grafted to have five varieties on it. Back then, I never gave it much thought. But, it was so neat to pick a red, yellow, or green apple off the tree.
(Macintosh, Delicious, Granny Smith....)
In the fall, Mom would have us shake the tree, and pick up the fruit off the ground. I recall climbing up the tree and using my feet and hands to shake the branches and limbs while I remained close to the center trunk. She would then make applesauce. Delicious. Nothing like homemade applesauce.
I recall "volunteering" to help peel the apples for cooking. It was not too bad. I would snack on the apple skins as I peeled the apples. Hahahaha.

MOVIES
Movies, almost forgot them. I usually watch the movies that are shown on television. I do not rent movies. Some movies that are memorable to me have been: "Patton", "2001...", and "Network".
One movie I thoroughly enjoy watching every year is "A Christmas Carol". The original version, in black and white, with Alistair Sim. It helps keep me grounded.

Additional things
One thing that I will always remember is my memory of seeing Halley's comet. It was just amazing. But what makes the event even more memorable was having my Grandma see it with me. Back in 1986 I picked her up very early in the morning one day. It was about 3AM when I arrived. We traveled several miles outside of the city to view it. We watched it until the sun obscured the view. But it was so cool. Imagine my 86 year old grandmother out at 3AM, on a lonely stretch of road with me,...just to watch a comet. Not many 86 year olds want to get up that early, but she did. She had the privilege of seeing the comet... twice! 1911 and 1986 Wow. Not many people can do that.........I was 22 years old at that time, Grandma was 86 years old..... tears of joy.

I help my senior citizen neighbors. During the winter months I would shovel their driveway, sidewalk, and porch to ensure clear passage to the garage, and safe walk to the house entry. I know how frustrating it is to return home, and be faced with shoveling a driveway that has many inches of snow cover. I know how frustrating it is, to be stuck in one's own driveway. I know how frustrating it is being under stress to shovel and clear the pedestrian sidewalk within 48 hours. To me, it is so comforting to have a "safe zone" that greets people as they approach the house. For several years, I ensured their driveway was ALWAYS clear. But I also helped keep her Mother's driveway clear. I accepted only a token amount as payment. It was truly a very small amount. Retired couple(70years plus), and her Mother(90years plus). Each lived near to me at that time. I miss them all. I helped them out of the generosity of my heart. I can only imagine how they felt having a "safe zone" to greet them as they arrived home. I even would extend the shoveling into the street. I would shovel a "fishtail" into the street which created additional area where snow would not interfere with travel.
The six things I could never do without
Music. It transports me to another time and place
in my life and the fond memories I have.
--- Music is my time machine, it transports me back
--- in time to fond memories of my youth.
Memories I have of my Grandmother.
More, later.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
I hope I can find a better job.
I am diamond in the rough.
My Dad is gone. Alzheimer's.
====
I had not given it much thought until now.
I receive profiles and wonder how to choose.
Age: seems to be important to me. If our age difference is too much, I envision obstacles too difficult to overcome. I can not imagine being with someone twenty years younger. It might be nice, but I do not think it would work.
Beauty: is subjective. I want someone that is beautiful to me. I want someone that makes my heart go pitti-pat-pitti-pat-pitti-pat when I see her. Physical appearance seems to be a trigger that opens the door and is one piece of the puzzle. Inner beauty is another.

A test I took recently concluded my preference of the hair color for my mate was "Strong Blonde". It is? It comes as a surprise to me. I thought it did not make any difference.
-- Do not let this test result deter you from sending me a message.

I do know that religion, politics, and finances are critical and can cause problems in a relationship. But if communication is open and honest, I hope those obstacles can be overcome.
I attended church as a youngster. Parents would take us to church every week. But I do not attend much now.

My current neighbor is so sweet. She is a silver haired, very senior citizen. I have spoken with her several times. One instance, she had been baking, and she gave me a small loaf of pumpkin bread just out of the oven. Goodness, fantastic.
