Here's a list of words which go some ways towards describing me:

- Musical: I've played violin since I was five. I have a degree in Jazz violin, of all things.

- The quiet type - though I'll talk your ear off about all the things I'm passionate about, which include music, the Alexander Technique, body work (i.e. massage or rolfing), making musical instruments, mindfulness, and the meaning of life... whatever that is.

I do so many things in my life.
- I play and teach music. I play in several area bands, whose styles include Irish rock, Gypsy jazz, and old-timey rock n' roll.
- I teach the Alexander Technique, a fascinating study of movement, thought, intention, and awareness.
- I build things like a six-string electric violin (with lots of help from my uncle), and a marimba (very much in progress).
- I compose music and record at home. Check out some of my music at josepharnold1.bandcamp.com.
- I also do all sorts of artsy-craftsy things. When I get an idea for a cool project, I can spend hours on hours immersed in it. One of my favorite activities is to make things with friends. Right now, I'm making a cigar box tenor ukulele.

My plans, as they seem at the moment, is to become a violin professor at some cool university near an ocean somewhere. I also would love to teach Alexander Technique full time.

Teaching music, listening to your words, listening to my heart, fixing things, enjoying a quiet moment, parallel parking, playing violin, enjoying music, enjoying simple pleasures, expressing nuanced feelings and situations, baking cookies, making hearty soups, forgetting people's names...

My Van Dyke beard. Some tell me that I look like Stalin (how is that a compliment?) or a Civil War reenactor (again, how is that a compliment?).

Aside from avocados, I could never do without mindfulness. I believe mindfulness to be the single greatest gift to humankind.

That, and avocados.

The nature of experience and consciousness, the Alexander Technique, music, and how to find meaning in my life. Sound overly earnest? Perhaps. But I am also very light-hearted.

I eat most of my meals out of bowls.
