But I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
Apr 15, 2007
I find it interesting that a dating site asks so many questions in
its attempts to get to know you (and with such inacurate results,
I'm beginning to notice...) but it lacks that one big question that
I'd think would be among the first...
What are you looking for?
Perhaps OkCupid thinks it knows too well what you're looking for after asking you 1000+ questions in its attempts to find your perfect match. But let's be honest: how often do you skim your "10 weekly matches" e-mail and find something that really catches your eye? For me, it's happened once. Albiet, that once turned out to begin something quite wonderful while it lasted. But still, I've been here a while and even whether actively looking or not, it's happened only once.
In any case, I started talking about this only because I was thinking about what I really want. I could do the conventional thing and hook up with whomever is interesting enough that I happen to meet. The fact remains that making out with someone who just caught your eye is nothing compared to someone who really catches your fancy. And rather than just look for the next thing as is often expected of my college crowd, I'd rather find someone who makes me feel worthwhile and special and who I want to make feel special.
So while OkCupid thinks it can find that for me, I think I'll throw some stuff out here. These are in no particular order of importance or emphasis, but I'd like a girl to be...
Passionate. Whatever it is, I love a girl who has passion for life and what they're doing. No matter what it is, I admire seeing the fire burning in someone for something they love.
Fun. I can be a goof. I like girls who can be goofy with me. Even more, I like a girl who knows when its good to have fun and when it's time to be serious.
Strong. Not because I'm a sub. Quite the contrary. I like a girl to know herself and what she wants and to be able to stand up for herself. I mean, I'm more than willing to go to bat for someone I care about, but there's no reason they should be cowering. Also I like the congenial power struggles you can have with someone who you're on par with.
Intelligent. Not a genius, just smart. Doesn't matter what subject; If you can carry on an intelligent conversation with me, you will turn me on. And I love when a girl can teach me something I don't know.
Talented. Again, it doesn't matter what in. I just like a girl who has a special flare about them and can do something awesome.
Clean. It's kind of a given. On any level, a clean girl is more attractive. Hell, for me, a clean girl who's pretty will beat out a hot girl who is nasty.
Sexy. Or, perhaps, Sexual. I like a girl who isn't afraid of their sexuality. That doesn't mean I want a slut. I'm very sexual myself and I'd like a girl who is just as aware and true to their sexual side as they are to their heart, mind and soul, whether they be innocent or experienced.
Quirky. That's an odd one, huh? I like a girl who has some oddities about them. It doesn't make them strange to me. It makes them more special. (Cue: "Awww")
Just a snapshot of what I'd like in a girl, all subject to change, of course, as time goes by. Perhaps sometime I'll look back and see the things I wanted in a person and how it's since changed. That might be fun.
