My Self-Summary
How does one encapsulate the self here in a summary?
"Once in a while some event occurs where I am compelled to step forward...but most of the time it's not necessary to wear any hat at all. When we latch on to an identity, it's easy to take offense. But we offend ourselves. We lock ourselves into very rigid ways of seeing, thinking, feeling and reacting. It doesn't have to be this way. The fact is, I'm not anything in particular. Neither are you. Nor is anyone.
"We must come to doubt the common-sense idea that we experience an 'I' antecedent to, separate and distinct from what is 'not-I.' We must come to doubt the explanation that there can be a self (literally a 'not-other') that is separate from an other."
Ha. Now THAT is some shit.
...But can you dig it?
What I’m doing with my life
Recently (self) ejected from corporate America. Turns out that if you don't tow the authoritarian obedience line regardless of circumstance, some cats don't like it (that regardless of skill or talent).
Well, that type of thinking got us where we are now.....so I decided to simply fall out of step.
Good move, turns out...
Currently partaking in journalism, music study and composition and some entrepreneurial music opportunities....
I’m really good at
Good is pretty subjective, right?
The first things people usually notice about me
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Favorite authors of note: Kenny Werner, Noam Chomsky, Steve Hagen, Wayne Krantz, Lao Tzu, Nagarjuna, Daniel Goleman, Wayne Krantz, Sam Harris, David Cross, Eric Schlosser, Paul Eckman, A.J. Ayer, Karl Popper, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Richard Feynman, and Bertrand Russell.
Movies:
Off the random ass top of head...too many to name...Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Army of Darkness, The Jerk, Big Lebowski, Half Baked, American Psycho, Motorcycle Diaries, Flow, The Corporation, Blues Brothers, Baraka, Monty Python etc., Kung Fu Hustle, Blazing Saddles, Spinal Tap, Cool Hand Luke, Iron Man, Shawshank Redemp.
Music: WAYYYYYYYYYY too much to name so I will just name some genres and big influences.
Rock, Jazz, Latin, Indian Classical (North and South), Blues, Bluegrass, Folk, Funk, Soul, R&B, some hip hop, African (particularly Nigerian, Beninian and Cameroonian). If the shit grooves, and the intent is pure I'm down.
Some heavies: John Coltrane, Miles Davis, John Mclaughlin, Nirmala Rajasekar, Kai Eckhardt, Robert Walter, Anindo Chatterjee, Lalgudi Jayaraman, Wayne Shorter, Zakir Hussain, Joe Zawinul, Victor Wooten, Jimi, Jaco, Bela Fleck, Tony Williams, Dave King, Scott Henderson, Roger Waters, Tom Waits, Steve Coleman, John Lennon, Ahmad Jamal, John Renbourn, Davy Graham, and Frank Zappa.
Food: Anything new, ethnic and spicy...and ideally not drenched in grease. Also not usually down with the meat thing, though it will be eaten if the situation merits it.
The six things I could never do without
Wait, that's seven.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Awareness.
Music.
Communication.
Sustainability.
On a typical Friday night I am
Because I try not to fall into "typical" modes of living, it's hard to identify a pattern and identify a "typical" Friday...
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
Not going to admit too much private shit here...not a whole lotta upside...knowhatimsayin?
