My Notes edit

My self-summary

I graduated from college in 2004 and have been a 'working professional' ever since. I have a small group of friends that are close, people I have known for a long time. I am not really shy, I am actually kind of outspoken once I get to know you, but I don't tend to go out so much, I'd rather hang out at home with some friends than go out.

I love movies and I'm the kind of guy that finds himself agreeing with the movie critics a little bit more often than everyone else. I'm not a terrible movie snob, I enjoy a cheesy comedy just as much as the next guy, but I appreciate a good movie, and I don't mind reading subtitles either. I also love to read, but I never seem to find enough time to read all the books I want. My "to read" shelf has been growing for a while. I am also a gamer. I don't play games non-stop but once a month or so I will find a game that I get engrossed in, the same way I will get really into a good book from time to time.

I also love to cook (but only for other people). I can sometimes be a bit of a slob (although I try to keep things acceptably tidy). I love music but was a bigger music listener when I was in college. For those it matters to though. I am mostly into modern rock, although I can totally get into some classic rock and occasionally some actual classical music.

What I'm doing with my life

I am a software engineer, I write computer programs for a living. It's not glamorous but I am good at it and I enjoy it. It has allowed me to buy a house and get two Labradors (yes I have two big dogs). Beyond that I just want to live my life and be happy. I have some crazy dreams like buying a yacht and sailing around the world, but those are little pie in the sky and not things I take too seriously. Above all else I just want to be happy. I am definitely in no rush but eventually I'd like to have a family and children too, my family (brothers, parents, cousins, etc) are very important to me, and *eventually* I'd like to expand that family.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I am a big fan of Neil Gaiman's books, I think I have enjoyed everything I have read by him, which is just about all his stuff. I am a fan of Anne Rice's earlier stuff and I enjoy a good sci-fi story. I like a lot of Stephen King's stuff, but I also think a lot of his stuff is not so hot, kind of hit or miss. Some of my favorite reads of all time are probably Neuromancer, American Gods, and Ender's Game.

Back to the Future ranks pretty high up there, as does Kill Bill and The Shawshank Redemption. I really loved Pan's Labyrinth, and I really enjoyed The Fountain, Pi, and pretty much everything in between. I loved the TV series Firefly and I thought it was cut way before it's time.

As far as music goes, I am a big fan of modern rock, classic rock, and occasionally classical music. I'll also listen to some good light rock but mindless pop music kind of gets on my nerves. American Idol for example. Not a fan. But any music that is from the heart, any music that I can feel emotion from, I can get into, no matter what the genre. It just has to be real. Favorite bands right now, Muse, Queens of the Stone Age, Avenged Sevenfold. Older stuff I am into, early Incubus, Toadies, and I always enjoy Tool and A Perfect Circle.
