My self-summary
Look serious, actually funny. Intellectual and arts oriented, looking for the same, although a scientist and librarian by day.
Emotionally available, now just looking to have fun on dates with women who seek the same. Work a little too hard, want to play with the same intensity.

I hike often, up hills, through snow even, can throw a ball, football or frisbee pretty well, but I'm not an all-around athlete. Formerly more of a radical, now eclectic and somewhat contrarian, but still very liberal. Enjoy watching birds, good music, strong coffee and friendly women! Hoping to find a match in digital dating land.
What I’m doing with my life
Still working, keeping the brain cells moving in a rapid fashion.
I’m really good at
Making connections, as in connecting the dots. I think it started there anyway.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm bright, but much funnier than I look.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch by Philip K. Dick, Wings of the Dove by Henry James, Nova Express by William S. Burroughs.

Movies by Fassbinder and Fellini. Noir. Silent films. Argo was very good. Like Person of Interest, Elementary tv shows. Started to watch Homeland recently--Carrie does need that clozapine!

Some favorite all-time modern fiction writers--Angela Carter, J.G. Ballard, Kathy Acker, William Burroughs, Thomas Disch, Cormac McCarthy. Like James Ellroy, Michael Connelly, Christina Stead, Joan Aiken.

I listen to KFJC, but I can listen to almost anything, except extremely loud music.

My favorite non-operatic singers are Gram Parsons, Sandy Denny, and, this is embarrassing, I should never admit it, Frank Sinatra. I love most of Monk and Miles Davis, Eric Dolphy, Coltrane, and Charlie Parker--I have been listening to a lot of later Muddy Waters stuff lately, Joy Division and John Dowland, too I sense a trend!

Have loved Morricone and Rota, the McGarrigle sisters and their kids now, the Clash all for a long, long time, but I really don't know much hiphop, Jay-Z, etc.
The six things I could never do without
Pets, although I'm down to a fish right now!
My daughter
Science, learning more and more
Poetry and Music--aren't they closely related?
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Many different things - from small RNAs to schizophrenia and other psychiatric diseases' genetic roots to the bizarre status of US politics and the all the madness, sadness and joy that humans and fellow creatures are tortured by and enjoy every day.

Also, how to find a girl friend and make time to exercise!
On a typical Friday night I am
It used to be watching Fringe, the tv show, but that's over. Lately, out dining a date! Or going to music shows.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
A beautiful young female hawk landed at my bird feeder, looking for tasty birds, but found none!
