My self-summary
I only moved to Humboldt recently when I transferred to HSU. Before that I worked as a chef in San Luis Obispo and occasionally as a camp counselor/wilderness trip leader in Wiscasset, Maine. I love being outdoors, studying science, eating good food and drinking good beer.
What I’m doing with my life
I'm studying Anthropology at HSU which does take up a lot of my time. I spend a lot of time learning about foreign cultures, languages and religions. Beyond that I'm enjoying my new home. I try to fill up as much of my time with rock-climbing and hiking as I can (which is often not as much as I would like). Making new friends and generally taking advantage of all that this place has to offer.

Beyond that I have been turning my hand recently to gardening with...mixed results. I have long been interested in sustainable farming (I grew up on a farm, and would love to live in such a place again) and living practices and Arcata seems to be a great place to be exposed to these kinds of ideas.
I’m really good at
Not much I can say I'm REALLY good at, but I do think I'm a good chef. I worked in restaurants and wineries for 8 years and I do LOTS of home cooking.
The first things people usually notice about me
I tend to not be very talkative if I'm working.

I tend to be very talkative if I'm with people whose company I enjoy.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I read a lot, both fiction and non-fiction. A few of my favorites are: Dostoyevsky, Haruki Murakami, Jon Krakauer, George Orwell, Richard Dawkins, E.O. Wilson, Thomas Pynchon, Anthony Bourdain and Hermann Hesse. I also have recently acquired a taste for science fiction and have been reading Philip K. Dick and Dan Simmons. Good stuff so far.

I like historical dramas (i.e. The Lion in Winter, Kingdom of Heaven, Lincoln) as well as sci-fi/action movies (a la total recall). I also have a soft spot for anything by Quentin Tarantino, Wes Andersen or Richard Linklater. and silly comedies like Idiocracy. I also love some foreign directors like Akira Kurosawa (The Seven Samurai), Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth) and Park Chan-wook (Oldboy)

I don't really watch TV, except I do like Anthony Bourdain and Game of Thrones.

So much music, here's just a sample in no particular order.

Devil Makes 3, Tool, Yonder Mountain String Band, Avett Brothers, Mason Jennings, Basia Bulat, She Keeps Bees, Andrew Bird, Stephen Marley, Manu Chao, Balkan Beat Box, A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Old Crow Medicine Show, Modest Mouse, Pink Floyd, The Dead Weather, The Kills, Florence & The Machine, Yeah Yeah Yeah's, The Raconteurs.

Food, I love all kinds. though I eat lots of Mexican, medditerranean and Indian foods. I would eat sushi everyday if I could. Also, I'm not vegetarian exactly, I put that on my profile because I tend to eat meat and dairy sparingly. Except for cheese, I really love cheese.

I also love beer and have started brewing some myself recently. So far that experiment is working better than the gardening.
On a typical Friday night I am
On a typical night, studying and/or working unfortunately. But on an IDEAL Friday night I would say I'd be camped out somewhere. Or sipping a beer in a neighbors backyard.
