Other than that, I'm consuming vast quantities of visual entertainment--Netflix could probably clone my mind based purely on my ratings--spending too much time reading online news forums and Wikipedia, attempting to keep myself in shape by walking up hills and rowing nowhere, reading a book now and then (spoiler: the conflict is resolved), and watching people for signs of sapience.
Movies: The tip of the iceberg would include the irresistible agony of Todd Solondz, the heartrending reveries of Krzysztof Kieślowski, the joyful playthings of Jean-Pierre Jeunet, the transportive sagas of Hayao Miyazaki, the thoughtful weirdness of Werner Herzog, the raw weirdness of Harmony Korine, and the ineffable weirdness of David Lynch. Oh, and (the better examples of) horror, action, science fiction, and superhero films.
Shows: Currently, I'm with everyone else in the stands for the Game of Thrones, and I remain loyal to South Park and Futurama (and yes, even the prolonged Simpsons). Looking back, I thought the science-fiction-lite of LOST was brilliant (and yet to be replicated), the war drama of Battlestar Galactica was enveloping, and Jack Bauer remains my #1 man-crush.
Music: Some goth and industrial selections from my teens and early college years, when music seemed to matter more than anything; a lot of 80s music, from when I realized that joy and nostalgia were also permissible in the mix; some alt-country and roots rock, since I discovered it had the pathos of goth without the fantasy aspect; some underground hip-hop, because "Why do you think they call it dope?"; various forms of electronic dance music, indie rock, pop, and even some 20th century classical music, because everyone needs a little culture.
Please tell me you have a similar fantasy, or else I will feel like a colossal nerd.
