My name's Jonathan. I'm in the postbac premed program at Scripps right now. I'm hoping to link to the University of Pittsburgh, so there's a good chance I'll be moving back east this summer and I'm not looking for anything long term.
I love to travel, the weirder the place the better. My top five cities are probably Istanbul, NYC, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Cape Town. My favorite overall travel experience was the Camino de Santiago.
Sports are a big part of my life. I rowed back in Philly, but there aren't any rivers in the Inland Empire so I'm getting into mountain biking instead.
My historical dinner party (more informative than Myers-Briggs) would be Leonardo da Vinci, Catherine the Great, Ben Franklin, and Alcibiades (Google him). Christopher Hitchens can come by for drinks after, but if he talks about Iraq he's getting nothing but Bud Light.
What I’m doing with my life
Premed courses, hospital volunteering, staying in shape in my spare time.
I’m really good at
I think clearly in emergencies, I've been told my memory is spookily good, and I'm a decent mimic. Oh, and since I've gotten into yoga I can balance on one leg while leaning forward like a badass.
The first things people usually notice about me
My resemblance to a certain famous soccer player. I haven't gotten VIP treatment out of it yet, unless you count the time I got mobbed in a restaurant in Jordan by fans trying to get photos with me. Yes, this really did happen.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Basically anything by John Le Carré (currently reading "The Constant Gardener"). I used to say that "A Perfect Spy" was my favorite spy novel, now it's just my favorite book, period. I also like PG Wodehouse, and I have a love/hate relationship with George R.R. Martin.
Movies: The Departed, James Bond, Gravity, Lincoln, Munich, Interstellar, The Hangover, Inception, Lord of the Rings, Gladiator, Das Boot, Run Lola Run, and almost anything by Quentin Tarantino (though Reservoir Dogs is overrated).
Music: A bit of everything, from classical (Chopin was a genius) to techno to reggae to Swedish heavy metal.
Shows: Breaking Bad, House of Cards, Game of Thrones, Jeeves and Wooster, Monty Python, The Borgias
Food: I'll try anything at least once, unless it involves soggy red peppers or prosciutto. I crave Indonesian food pretty often, which is a shame since it's so hard to find.
The six things I could never do without
Dogs, my passport, coffee, Netflix, my laptop, ambition.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
When I win my first Nobel, who am I gonna thank in my speech?
But in all seriousness, I think a lot about whether I want to stay in California for the long haul or head back East.
On a typical Friday night I am
Exploring, or busting my ass if I have an exam on Monday.
You should message me if
If you're ambitious and driven but can appreciate life's quiet side too. It's a plus if you can tutor me in physics.
Or if you think you can guess which soccer player I was talking about.
