Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Decided to rewrite this recently because I was bored and felt like
procrastinating on urgent work. Nu...
First of all, I'm not looking for romantic connections on here
right now. I am, however, very easy to draw into a conversation
about just about anything, particularly if it's of a contemplative
or philosophical bent.
I'm a social scientist, and I mainly study armed conflict, though
sociological theory and the philosophy of social science both
feature significantly in my research. I tend to make a lot of lame
puns. Really lame. In large volumes. Also a lot of meme-references.
This is because I spend most of my day at my computer and am easily
What else? Oh, I am addicted to coffee, I lift weights every second
day, I enjoy spicy food, and really, I should get back to work.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I'm a PhD student. I read and write a lot. I over-analyse
everything. Basically I go around being pedantic. Think of it as a
calling. I'm called to the priesthood of the Enlightenment. I'm a
secular clergyman of the scientific. Etc. Pity my students.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I'm good at thinking. I'm good at finding something worthwhile to
contribute in a wide range of conversations. I'm good at learning,
too. I'm good at poking people to think and learn more, I like to

Conjecture: that I'm blonde, blue-eyed, not very tall, and fairly
muscular. Unless they're blind or not looking at me, in which case
they'd notice that I have an unplacable accent to my speech, and
that I like to overanalyse and intellectualise everything. Oh and
puns. Oh my Science, do I make puns! Sometimes they're even
If it weren't for the cat noises and general extreme dorkiness, I'd
probably conform to most behavioral norms of masculinity. In case
that matters to you.

In terms of non-fiction, my 'favourites' change constantly as I
encounter new ideas and begin new projects. As someone at a
relatively junior academic level (for a doctoral programme), I have
the luxury of reading broadly as well as deeply. If you're quite
curious, ask me for the current list of things that excite and
Fiction-wise, I think I'll merely mention that Terry Pratchett
writes good books, and I really liked His Dark Materials. William
Gibson writes stuff that amuses and provokes me in engaging
Music: I could hardly list everything, but some important ones are
Steeleye Span, Sandy Denny, Johnny Clegg, Garmarna, Jim Moray, Bert
Jansch, and Alisdair Roberts.
Food: all the food. Ethiopian food, sushi, and a few assorted
Chinese and Indian dishes especially.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
