My Notes edit

My self-summary

I am pretty damn happy and content these days. I live in the ever awesome Davis Square, close by the always fun and quirky Cambridge, I just got a new job at a pretty sweet company, and I am within taxi, T, and stumbling distance of my friends scattered throughout the city. The only other things I could possibly ask for out of life would be winning the lottery and meeting up with more interesting, fun, and intelligent people. Hey, I bet a dating site could take care of at least one of those...

What I'm doing with my life

I would have to say that I am happiest I have ever been in my entire life, and I rate myself a pretty content person to begin with. I just got a new job at a company I really wanted to work for making MEMS (think machine so small you need a microscope to see, oh and there are some in your Wii controller). I am pretty excited about it because it is a lot of responsibility working on a very bleeding edge technology. I have a lot of friends scattered throughout the Boston Area who ensure the weekends never get too boring. I love where I live, I like my friends, even work isn't so bad. My plan is to keep doing roughly what I am doing and tossing in a few more hobbies on top of that to keep myself entertained.

Otherwise, I my goals right now are to meet more people, have intelligent conversation, and find more fun things to do.

I'm really good at

I do a little part time psych work for my friends. I listen, offer a little perspective, and a lot of the time they step back, take a deep breath, and realize that while shit happens, it tends to blow over quickly enough.

I have been rocking the fall food recently. If anyone who comes over to my house pretty much is guaranteed to get hot mulled apple cider spiked with rum shoved down their throat. I have to say, my home made mulled cider rocks. My apple pies are not bad either. So, I guess I am good at fall? Is that a skill?

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

When in a group of people I tend to let slip subtle jokes that slide past some people unknowingly. Those who catch the jokes tend to notice them and be in tears (the good laughing kind of tears).

I look younger than I am and will probably be carded until the day I die.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books:
I am a pretty avid reader. Few things are better than reading some non-fiction that alters your perspective on society, history, economics, behavior, science, or pretty much anything. I have been on a real behavioral economics bent recently in terms of non-fiction. The perspective offered up in the Black Swan floored me and altered my outlook on the world. I hate reading non-fiction books that I agree with completely. I don't need my beliefs reinforced, I need them assaulted.

All of that said, I happily burn through a trashy and some times not-so-trashy sci-fi novels pretty often. Anyone who has read some Neal Stephonson scores very big in my book. I am a sucker for 1700-1800ish fiction, as it was such an earth shattering time in history. The Count of Monte Cristo, the Aubrey-Maturin series, and the System of Worlds series all rocked me to the core. Hell, I'll read just about anything anyone recommends.

Music:
My taste in music could probably be broadly described as "alternative", ranging from rock, to punk, to indie, to electronic, and even a little folk and instrumental. Anything that sounds a little different from the usual peaks my interests. Blues and swing also score high in my book. I am an absolute sucker for ska and pretty much anything that has some brass. To give you a vague idea of my tastes: Gogol Bordello, Operation Ivy, Ladytron, Undercover SKA, Massive Attack, The Asylum Street Spankers, Squirrel Nut Zippers... it can be random.

I am an omnivore, but when cooking for myself I eat like a vegetarian health nut more out of laziness (veggies are easy to make) than any great convictions. When out, I'll eat and enjoy pretty much anything and love trying new food. Indian, sushi, Ethiopian, and Thai all rate very high for me. I like finding unique food, and Boston is a great place to do this. I'll try pretty much anything without batting an eyelash.

The six things I could never do without

I love having close friends around me, but I can entertain myself pretty readily. I suppose if you put me somewhere were there are no friends, no interesting people, no books, and no internet, my sanity might start to fray around the edges.

Pick six?

Friends, the internet, books, the city, MP3 player (books on tape + annoying commute = less annoying commute), and beverages (coffee, beer, tea) that serve as an excuse to go hang out with friends and meet people.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

What the hell to do at 3am. The amount I am spending on books is sick.

I'm planning to building a demon of a computer that will basically be so powerful that I will have to summon it straight from the pits of hell. I want to steampunk it out, but I question my artistic awesomeness.

I have had zombies on the mind in the past week or two... zombie dreams, zombie board games (just got Last Night On Earth), and zombie movies... mmm... maybe I need some zombie books too...

On a typical Friday night I am

I am usually with friends getting into some misadventure or another when I am not working. My friends tend to be an active group and thus someone usually has something going on, whether it is a band someone is headed off to see, a movie, board game nights, ultimate frisbee, or some random activity in the city. I also like dragging my friends over to my house by bribing them with food and drinks pretty regularly.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

My secret dirty musical pleasure is Daft Punk. I know it is cheesy... but it is Daft Punk. Who could possibly hate Daft Punk?

I only work 3 or 4 days a week (which rocks), but on those 3 or 4 days I work nights (which rocks if you are nocturnal... which I am). The net result? In the same way radiation generally gives people super powers and weaknesses, I have developed super powers and weaknesses from my nocturnal habits.

My super powers include:
-Being able to party all night until sunrise without batting an eyelash.
-Amazing powers of night biking. 3am can be boring. A MP3 player, a bike, and an urban landscape make it less boring.
-Always being the guy that you can safely call at 3am without fear of waking.
-The ability to tear through books in a night or two of uninterrupted reading.

My weaknesses include:
-Coming to lunch with bedhead.
-Conciseness between 8am and noon... I just suck at it. Any time but those times and I am your man. During those times, and I am a corpse whose only skill is sleeping through anything short of a nuclear explosion.

My nemesis:
-Morning people. Damn you your cheery wakefulness during the most horrible time of the day.

You should message me if

I am open to almost anything. Meeting new people would be great. I am always up for giving conversation a try. At worst it turns out to be a little lost time that means nothing in the grand scheme of things, and at best I click with someone. I don't really see how it can go wrong. I really am just looking for intelligent and interesting people.

I am not searching for anything in particular, but if I find something (friend, love, sex, activities), great! If I find nothing, eh, I am no worse off for it.

Message me if you want to grab a drink of the poison (coffee, beer, wine, herbal tea, water, whatever) that serves as an excuse to talk or meet up to do some casual activity (bowling, pool, music, whatever). Casual meet ups are great. I am pretty much open to anything. If we click in any way, great. If not, eh, I bet we can both find someone else worth hanging around in the other 6+ billion people in the world.

If you happen to be nocturnal, give me a holler. 3am can get really boring. I like normal humans who sleep at night (instead of the morning like me), but people I can hang out with while I am busy not sleeping would be wonderful. I socialize during the day, but then midnight rolls around, everyone vanishes and I get to spend 6 hours reading, twiddling my thumbs, looking for hobbies, and biking aimlessly through empty streets.
