My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
An engineer goes to the park to meet his engineering buddy. When is buddy arrives he has a new bike. He asks his buddy, "where did you get the bike?" The buddy replies, "Crazy story! I was at the other end of the park and this beautiful girl comes up to me, gets off her bike, takes off all her clothes, and says, 'Take what you want.'" The engineer stares at his buddy for a second and says, "Yeah, good choice. The clothes probably wouldn't have fit."

A sense of humor is important to me. I enjoy jokes, especially ones that stereotype engineers since I am one. A joke, not a stereotype. Wait, I mean an Engineer! However, my real passion is flying and I'm working to make that my career as we speak.

I enjoy hiking. I love to hike somewhere that has a great view. Romping through the snow with snow shoes is a great winter alternative! I enjoy playing games with friends (board, card, and video). Have you played Cards Against Humanity?

I enjoy having a good music playlist whether I'm driving to work or flying my little plane to the Tetons. As a hobby, I also like making my own music on the piano or guitar from time to time, including composing my own songs.

Traveling! Originally from the Netherlands, I go back frequently to visit extended family. I also traveled the world for a number of years for work and enjoy exploring and learning about other people and cultures.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Family and friends are important to me so I fit them in my schedule whenever I can.

I have been lucky to have my engineering job where I get to travel the world. I've learned a ton about the world as well as myself but now it's time to move forward with my dream...a flying career.

I co-own a small two-seat airplane that has the gas mileage of a 26 MPG, road trip! Um, I mean, airplane trip! I take the plane over the car whenever I can. Get it? Plane "over" the car...sorry for the pun but I got a kick out of it. I would like to find someone that's into that or at least willing to give it a try or is perhaps willing to read the map for fun. I guarantee it'll be and adventure if not an absolutely fun time and breathtaking views (bring your best playlist)!
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
I think I'm a decent cook and I like making food for others, especially a romantic other. I don't cook for myself too often but, when I do, I have a lot of fun with it. I like to put on some good music, grab a glass of wine, and laugh at any mistakes I might make. I've been told I'm actually a pretty good cook and, so far, no one has died.

Performing random knife sharpness checks with my thumb while cooking.

I'm good at making plans. Especially when traveling, I like to have a plan to maximize my experience but I'm good at going with the flow too.

Performing random gravity checks. Especially when coming down the stairs. I don't do them as often as the knife sharpness checks but still an important part of my routine to ensure that physics remains intact (that's important for the flying thing).

Flying UFO's! I frequently fly a little plane that most people have trouble identifying even if they know planes. We affectionately call it, "the egg".

Now where's the "I'm kind of good at" section?
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Probably my sense of humor and willingness to make people laugh,
even if it means making a fool of myself. But I can be serious when I need to be.

I look a few years older than I am. Always have. Also, I've always been able to grow a good beard, which I like to do every now and then.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Catch 22, The Wheel of Time series. I like to read but, unfortunately, I don't have time for a lot of leisure reading at this point in my life. I read quite a bit of aviation stuff like FAA regulations (boring, right?) and also the awesome fun stuff on flying, pilot skills, and weather; always learning...

Pilot Operating Handbooks are fun because that means I'm learning how to fly a new plane!

I'd rather learn about you by talking to you but if you happen to have written a book about yourself, it may be beneficial to have the extra reference material. Just kidding! Or am I?

Amelie is one of my favorites. Braveheart, The Aviator, Super Troopers, Dumb and Dumber, The Hangover, Lost in Translation, etc.

I get into a variety of TV shows when I have time or just need some time to myself to unwind. Dexter, New Girl, Grimm, the Walking Dead, etc.

As for theatre "show", I was able to catch "In the Heights" on Broadway a year or two ago. I find all those musical-type events always have some great humor in them and a fun outlook on life. For some reason, I've always found plays and musicals to be really amusing and entertaining. Maybe it's the personal touch of having actors on stage...

I can't rule out any given genre. I'll listen to everything from classical, blues, and jazz, to Latin, pop/rock, and even techno stuff. My least favorites are rap and country.

I prefer good company to good food so I'm not too picky. I like to cook but prefer to cook for or with someone else. I've gotten better at making quite a few vegetarian and/or vegan dishes and, at home, will largely try to stick to that when cooking for myself. I've been told I'm a pretty good cook...I have my mom to thank for that.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
-Family and friends...that's a given.

-Natural areas, trails, parks, etc.

-Technology. How else would I do flight planning by checking the weather 1000 miles away and search for a romance on the same little device?

-Music to listen to as well as the ability to create it myself on the piano.

I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
-Past/present/future events in my life. I analyze things a lot but I'm trying to just live life and enjoy.
-How I am going to meet someone special and move forward with that part of my life.
-If it's the right time or the appropriate situation to say what I'm thinking. Often, I'll just smile to myself because it's something funny that amuses me.
-Where I will be traveling next.
-Where I will be flying next!
-Whatever I can do in order to combine the previous 2.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Up in the air! Literally or figuratively.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I own a pair of wooden shoes. Why do I have them? Because I've outgrown my other pair! Every Dutch person living abroad is required to have their wooden shoes with them...whether that's standard issue wood or with a custom paint job.

I do the Salsa to just about any kind of music. It's my claim to fame at weddings. Is it because I'm an extraordinary dancer? No. Is it because it's the only dance I know that I can do adequately enough to make it fun? Yeah, it's probably more like that.

Any questions? No, the things I listed aren't really private. Yes, you can try on the wooden shoes. Well, I've done yard work in them and ridden on a bike with them in the New Belgium Tour de Fat. No, I wouldn't recommend Salsa dancing in them unless you are already in a hospital emergency room That can immediately treat you for your injuries. :)

You want to meet for a chat/beer/wine/coffee/funny hat party. Let's meet at some point instead of exchanging online messages until the cows come home...the cows get rowdy when they get home. The cows are often inebriated when they get home, hence the rowdiness. Normally, they're not that least when they're sober.

I'm looking for something real and am not a one night stand kind of guy. That also means I like to move slow unless the stars align, which I hope they do. I have a strong set of principles that I live by, I am successful, I am doing things I love to do, and I am a romantic just waiting for the right person to waltz into my life...or salsa, or simply stumble...have you been trying on my wooden shoes again?
