My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Not your typical American boy. The most shocking thing about me to most people is that I'm actually from DC. Yes, from inside the borders (by Catholic U if you must pry...). I make art, music, and general good vibes. I love to travel. So far I've been to Israel, Belgium, studied wood carving in Ghana, Brazil (Sao Paulo, Florianopolis, and studied capoeira in Bahia), Mexico, Japan, UK, Ivory Coast, Argentina, Jamaica, and Canada. Please do drop me a message if you've got a good travel story to share.

Things I have learned in my 30+ years on this earth:
Sleeping alone sucks but being with someone just to be with someone is worse.
Truth is more painful than faking it until the truth comes out.
Happiness is a decision not a passing state of mind.
We are who and what we are whether or not we choose to acknowledge it. It will come out eventually.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Currently preparing for the 6g welding exam although I think more sculpture and less pipefitting is my immediate future. Still working as a Digital Mercenary aka contractor web developer. More interesting: painting, sculpting, beatmaking, kung-fu practicing, cultural event going, book collecting, bike riding, cool place finding/ going... I'll try almost anything once. I sculpt wood and create mixed media art such as instruments out of non-standard materials (http://julianweaver.net if you're curious).
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Making people laugh, drawing portraits, staying up way too late and finding unique, fun stuff to get into.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
It used to be my hair. I cut my locs after 12 years so you tell me.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: philosophy I-Ching, William Gibson's Sprawl series, all sorts of travel and design books. Just got suggested Bukowski. I do agree...
movies: kung-fu, foreign, historical, action, I just saw Take Me to The River. It's about Staxx records. Very good history and live performances from a label just as influential as Motown. Go see it!
music: almost any live show. Local indies bands.

In the span of a month I saw Talib Kweli, a local Bluegrass band, and several metal bands. ambient, hip-hop (Stones Throw, anyone?), jazz, funk/ Vladislav Delay, MF Doom, Miles Davis (fusion period, I'm listening to "Get Up With It" right now. If you know this album please stop reading and message me now!), Funkadelic (all of it not just the 10 songs everybody knows...), James Brown, old acoustic Blues: John Lee Hooker, Charlie Patton, Robert Johson, Son House, Bukka White,
food: indian anything, sushi(unagi!!!!) w/ seaweed, chicken, quesadilla (I'm searching for the best so please let me know)
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
In no particular order: 1. travel 2. family 3. friends 4. creating 5. good spices in my kitchen 6. being near the sea (painfully surviving the last one here with the use of my friend's pool)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
politics, music, art, investing, what other country I'd like to live in, how to be a better person.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Out listening to some live band, hanging out with friends looking for house parties, or making art and or beats or trying to figure out how effectively combine all of the above.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I'm African-American but everyone thinks I'm from somewhere far away. So far I've been mistaken for Jamaican, Ethiopian, Sri Lankan, and Brazilian (I was just in Sao Paulo and spent about 5% of the trip explaining how I'm not from Brazil). Needless to say, I secretly fear being accidentally deported. But if they send me somewhere with great beaches I'd be good with it.
You should message me if
Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You tell a good story. You want to be told a good story (yes, with corresponding hand motions). You want to actually hang out. You're looking to meet someone. You can be friends even if we don't click romantically. You are more than your job (I care more about what you do after work). You have hobbies other than restaurants and bars (although I do love asian cuisine and drinks!)
