My self-summary
I grew up in Manhattan and graduated from an East Coast school last June. As a New Yorker, I'm still trying to get used to this whole "west coast best coast" thing. (I've started having regular conversations about traffic and I find the striking similarity to the SNL sketch "The Californians" deeply disturbing.)

I'd love the opportunity to explore Los Angeles, go hiking and surfing, go to museums, learn a new dance (I really want to try contra dancing), do the whole ski and swim thing, as well as finding new bars and restaurants and good hang out spots. I'd like to spend time with anyone willing to show me around or explore with me.

I'm currently working at a three-letter agency and if I tell you anything else, I may have to kill you.

I'll admit that I've only just started getting hooked on TV, so if you have any recommendations or are willing to watch things marathon-style starting with season 1, let me know, I've got a lot of catching up to do!

I love to cook! And I'm fairly sure I don't suck at it! That, or my friends and family are just really good liars. Either way, I really love cooking for other people and for dinner parties. It doesn't get much better than a home cooked meal, a bunch of friends, a bottle of red wine and a great conversation.

I'm also a big literature geek, particularly when it comes to drama. If you're willing to get into some good intellectual debates, you found the right girl. Those can involve any topic, from the meaning of life to how many kegs of beer will fit in a kiddie pool. (We actually figured out the answer to that one in college. If you're interested, its 28. Of course that number is relative, depending on the size of the kiddie pool in question.)

And apropos of nothing:
- Whenever I have to think of something random my first thought is always: umbrellas. Is that not strange?
- I deeply care about good writing, but despite having been an English major and feeling morally responsible for having correct grammar, I misplace commas to an alarming degree.
- I have great respect for anyone who can recite a limerick. "There once was a man from Nantucket"
- I was named after a Beatles song.
- I love the the science section of the New York Times
What I’m doing with my life
Asking that question. Really, though. What do you do with a B.A. in English? (That's a song from Avenue Q, if you haven't listened to that whole soundtrack, you haven't lived.)

While I'm dealing with my post-college-what-is-this-whole-adulthood-nonsense crisis, I am busy working on spec scripts and dreaming of Hollywood glamor.
I’m really good at
- Finding good cheap wine
- Losing my socks. I swear there's a sock monster in my laundry every single time...
- Yoga
- Walking fast (It's a New York thing)
- Reaching things on high shelves
- Improvisational cooking
- Finding people in a crowd
- Quoting Shakespeare
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm tall. They always ask if I play basketball. I did. I was Nine. For one glorious year I owned the court with endless rebounds. And then those little squirts grew up and my victory days were over. Though a professional basketball career was never in the cards for me, I did use my height to Row for two years in college.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
THEATRE/PLAYS: classical drama, including the Greeks and Jacobean dramatists such as Ford, Webster and Middleton. A favorite is Tis Pity She's a Whore. (With a title like that, what's not to love?) In modern drama I enjoy anything that makes me think. Some favorites include: Anything by Beckett or Sondheim, McDonagh's Pillowman and Cripple of Inishman, A Streetcar Named Desire, Our Town, R&G Are Dead, Cloud 9, and Angels in America.

I'm a huge Shakespeare geek and if you get me started I could discuss his works till the end of time. Some of my favorites include Hamlet, R&J and Twelfth Night, the TV show Slings & Arrows, and movies Shakespeare in Love, Stage Beauty, as well as Branagh's Much Ado and Henry V.

BOOKS/POEMS: Dune, The Wasteland, Never Let Me Go, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Lord of the Rings, Pride & Prejudice, Harry Potter, Their Eyes Were Watching God, The Giver, SlaughterHouse Five, The Alchemist, The Westing Game, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and the poetry of Eliot, Yeats and Auden.

MOVIES: I'm a sucker for sci-fi/fantasy and historical drama. My film collection looks like two halves of a couple put their favorites together, i.e.: Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, Dark Knight Trilogy, Pirates of the Caribbean and Fight Club are in there along with When Harry Met Sally, Pride & Prejudice, Moulin Rouge and Love Actually. That and all the Pixars. I love Disney and Pixar movies and yes I do know all the lyrics to "I'll Make a Man out of You."

MUSIC: I'm currently on an indie rock kick. Florence & The Machine, Imagine Dragons, Mumford & Sons, Ingrid Michaelson, Of Monsters and Men, The Head and the Heart, etc. But I go through phases

TV:
Daily Show & Colbert Report
Slings & Arrows (major bonus points to you if you know what this is)
Once Upon a Time (guilty pleasure)
Game of Thrones (SEASON 3 IS COMING, I'm rather excited. Can you tell?)
Downton Abbey

SPORTS: I really enjoy sports, particularly water sports. I was a swimmer and a rower, and when I get the rare chance I love to go scuba diving. I have never learned to surf, but its on my to-do list. I'll watch pretty much any televised sport if you can tell me something interesting about the teams. And Yes, I do like football. Both kinds.
The six things I could never do without
Coffee
Netflix
Dark Chocolate
Really comfy sweaters
Books (the real kind that you can throw across a room, and that smell funny after they've been on shelves for 50 years)
People (I need social contact. Constantly.)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
- How many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop

- Stories. I think the arts are all fundamentally an expression of great stories and most of us are just sitting around waiting for inspiration to hit.

- Culinary Experiments. I like to try to cook new things, and I'll often subject those around me to those experiments. What should the next project be: balsamic-reduction glazed steak? Goldschlagger truffles? Royal Dauphine cocktail? Goat-cheese and mushroom crostini?

- My friends. Once I get emotionally invested in people, I'm along for the ride. I want to spend time with people who make me happy and in return I'll go out of my way for them.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out with friends, going out, watching TV or plotting world domination. You know, the usual.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm adopted and I've met my birth parents. My adoptive parents are divorced and re-married. Long story short, I've got 8 parents and 7 siblings. If you're in it for the long-haul, beware. That's a lot of in-laws.
I’m looking for
  • Guys who like girls
  • Ages 20–25
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating, activity partners
You should message me if
- You know the difference between "your" and "you're"
- You actually read this whole profile. If so, props to you. I realize I'm rather loquacious.
- You can guess my favorite play from this: "they say the owl was the baker's daughter."
- You believe art and/or creativity are vital to a good life
- You enjoy bad puns
- You can shamelessly tell me which Hogwarts house you would be sorted into.
- You think "unique" is a compliment.
- You want to go on an adventure.
