Update: at the end of May, I'm moving from NY to Portland, OR for a few months. I'm completely new to the city, so I'm relying on you Portlandians to come up with suggestions for things to do, see, eat, and drink.

I grew up in England and, after many years of gazing longingly from afar, moved to NY for grad school in 2007. I write about the history of psychiatry and philosophy and do my best to keep my students as entertained as possible.

Other than that, y'know, I'm a nice guy.

Teaching undergrads. Maintaining the fiction of writing my dissertation. Interviewing novelists.

Laughing. Making sandwiches. Helping people buy clothes (if academia doesn't work out, I might have a career as a personal shopper). Grammar. Planning activities/holidays/general fun.

I'm tall. People on here keep asking if I'm really 6' 3" - the answer is yes. Also, I'm English. I wear a lot of plaid and always have some kind of bag/satchel/over-the-shoulder-device with me.

I don't know how to answer this. I'm pretty sure that any person really worth meeting would bring something new and unexpected into my life, so there's something rather self-defeating about producing a laundry list of demands here. But someone who likes and feels comfortable with who they are is probably a good start.
