Always learn.
Always help.
Always critique and analyze.
Always realize that you have the power to create happiness.
Stagnation is death.

Honest, kind, scientific, generous, and respectful.
I do hold radical opinions on many things, but I'm not belligerent about them, and in fact love discussing ideas, whether or not I agree with them and whether or not I'm well informed about them. I love to learn and love to listen to people who know more than I do about whatever topic we've chosen. If your idea of a fun time is sitting in a coffee shop or on a couch or on a beach and talking about culture, philosophy, politics, ethics, social forces, or more formal scientific topics for hours on end, then you're my kind of person.

I'll expand this section soon, but for now, that sums me up pretty well.
What I’m doing with my life
One day I'll be a famous radio pundit or talk personality who people insult and defend with equal passion at water coolers and bars and at Thanksgiving dinners, inspiring passion in my millions of listeners while scaring the status quo.

Ah, dreams.
I’m really good at
Conversation. It sounds like a thing that should be a given, but I've learned that that's not the case. Conversing rather than talking, listening rather than hearing. Analyzing, theorizing, logic and rationality. Understanding historical and social and cultural forces.

Also cooking. I love to cook and I try to home cook every meal I eat. I'm always trying to learn about nutrition, recipes, and new ingredients to try!
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm tall and I talk a lot. I'm very gregarious, and that combined with my height and the fact that I sometimes gesture wildly when I talk, means I tend to unintentionally dominate a room. I don't mean to do that, but it's probably a thing people notice. People who define themselves as "laid back" probably find me tiring.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I generally read non-fiction. A lot of pop sociology and pop philosophy finds its way to my shelves, as do more formal texts on those subjects. Those shelves also see plenty of cookbooks and books on history and mythology, particularly of the Nordic and Greek varieties. (The mythology books, not the cookbooks.) Right now I'm reading The End of Faith by Sam Harris.

I'm not big on movies, and I've not seen most of the famed classics. Recently I've liked Cabin in the Woods, Zombieland, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, and The Departed. I don't like action schlock, but all other genres can be fun.

AS far as TV shows go, I like Game of Thrones and Louie. That's pretty much it. When I was younger I really liked That 70's Show and Futurama. I really want to get back into the Daily show and the Colbert Report, because judging by the clips I see from time to time those two are still really on point.

I like punk music, though I admit mostly the 90's punk scene, so feel free to deny me my punk credentials. The Offspring, Bad Religion, NOFX, Rancid, Anti-Flag, all good! The most modern band I like is Fun, oh and The Mountain Goats.
The six things I could never do without
My lust for knowledge and experience
My passion
My health
My honor
People who challenge me intellectually
My reputation for honesty and trustworthiness
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Cultural ideology, social theory, political ideology, philosophy, the nature of belief, social capital, human rights, that sort of thing. Also food, nutrition, health, and new recipes to try.
On a typical Friday night I am
Trying to convince myself to go out to a bar to try to meet people and then generally not doing that. I end up either watching some lecture on youtube, going to the gym, cooking, or, recently, playing Skyrim.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I don't believe in shame. Honesty about one's self is paramount.
Anything you ask, I'll answer.

Ah, here's one. I'm not even remotely in touch with my family and I don't see that as a bad thing.
I’m looking for
  • Girls who like guys
  • Ages 24–37
  • Located anywhere
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
- You realize that social and cultural norms are human constructs and that we, as human beings, have the power to make our own decisions outside of those structures. This is pretty much mandatory, and sounds like it would be a given, but you might be surprised how many people disagree with me on this.

- You are loud and aggressive, passionate and vocal about things that matter to you.

- You are interested in discussing politics, human / civil rights issues, personal philosophies, or moral / ethical structures.

- You have not given up on kindness and compassion. You don't see either of those as weakness or naive.

-You like the results of the tests I've taken on this site. All eight of them are, I feel, surprisingly accurate.
