My self-summary
I am a hopeful realist, self-critical, and affable. Big nerd.

'Bout sums it up.

I tend to get along with pretty much anyone. I prefer to hang out with people who take laughing at themselves very seriously.

I'm typically more into computers/games/books/film and just hanging out, though I do like to do something adventurous occasionally. Sky-diving is -definitely- on my list, but "adventurous" is usually just exploring some heavily forested area.

My personal hobbies and interests are quite nerdy, but they're not my entire person, of course. I love being able to have intimate discussions just about science, technology, philosophy, politics and even religion. The last two can get quite touchy, I know. But I don't believe they have to. Someone who believes the complete opposite from me but is willing to hold an honest, fair discussion about the topics is going to earn a great deal more respect than the person who agrees with me but couldn't hold a conversation to save their life.

As for the nerdy things. Table-top games and the playing thereof. The Indie Gaming Industry, and the advancement thereof. Film and the way directors utilize the camera itself as a tool rather than just a viewpoint. Creative Commons. Mostly fantasy/sci-fi literature.
What I’m doing with my life
Hanging out in the IT world, figuring out when I can jump into programming smoothly. Catching up on a large backlog of Games/Books/Movies. Trying to find new music all the time (Message me if you know Mono, Mogwai, Hammock, Purity Ring or FC Kahuna and know more like them. I've got some, but I can't get enough.)

And trying to meet new people. I moved here little over a year ago, and I have nothing to do with the university. I feel a little like an intruder. A year-long tourist.
I’m really good at
Googling things.
The first things people usually notice about me
My marvelous sense of humor and boundless humility, hurr hurr.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Good ones. I lean toward fiction, and within fiction I lean toward fantasy, and within fantasy I lean to the left. Then I lean to the right. Then I criss cross. Criss cross.

Music: I enjoy a lot of different music. Currently listening to a 'Mogwai' station on Pandora. A lot of indie SXSW stuff, etc. Shins, Built to Spill, Decemberists. That sort of stuff.

Movies: I have seen most all of the "guy" movies like Big Lebowski, True Romance, Fight Club... I also love emotionally powerful movies. Like Before Sunrise, Requiem For a Dream, Shawshank Redemption, Amelie, etc. I love movies. Want to see 'em all. I consider myself a dabbling cinephile. Working on going through the older canon.

My wife started watching 'Lost Girl'. I teased her a bit about it at first. It's like True Blood meets Gilmore Girls.

Now I can't stop watching it.

(Also Sherlock, Downton Abbey, Doctor Who, Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies, 30 Rock, etc.)
The six things I could never do without
Six, really? That seems awfully arbitrary.

Let's see.

1. Essential Amino Acids
3. Vidya games
4. My Wife.
5. Something
6. Something else
On a typical Friday night I am
Home or working. It's the atypical ones I look forward to.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I'm a pretty open book, but in the spirit of the question:

When I was 15 up until I was 20 or so, I had frequent debilitating panic attacks worrying about what was going to happen to me when I died. Eternity of Nothingness. I still lose sleep over it occasionally, but back then it was practically nightly, and terrible.
I’m looking for
  • Everybody
  • Ages 21–40
  • Located anywhere
  • For new friends, activity partners, long-distance penpals
You should message me if
If you still want to by now, that's a good sign, and I encourage you to do it. If you're the type of person who likes the type of person I appear to be, than that makes you my type of person.

I'm waiting to meet some guy or girl who's had the exact same fantasies about great friendships blossoming out of completely random contact.
