My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Things you should know (and be more than okay with)

1.) I'm a beer nerd and a food snob but I will never turn my nose up at a greasy pub burger and a Highlife.

2.) I'm painfully independent but (not so) secretly need to know I can rely on you.

3.) I'm educated and work in academia but don't take any of it too seriously. If someone offers me a job tomorrow working at a brewery in southern California, I'm likely to cut and run.

4.) I cherish my routine because it allows me the structure within which to be spontaneous.

5.) Snuggling will be required at some point. So will deep conversations and witty banter.

6.) I NEED to be challenged...physically, mentally and emotionally. I will seek out adventure and new learning opportunities frequently.

7.) Is my lucky number.
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Working as a research assistant at a local university, in the midst of a career change. I'm still not entirely sure what I want to do and I seem to be taking the slow route by systematically crossing off things that I don't want to do. Pretty sure that mimics my approach to dating. Feels like I'm closing in on something though.

I stay active, jog around the city here and there, hit the hot yoga mat frequently, and have spent a significant amount of time in a squat rack. Sitting on the couch for hours with a good book and marathon watching of movies/TV shows also comes easily to me.

I tend to be a bit of a thinker and sometimes take a little push to get to the "doing" stage but after that my momentum can make me unstoppable.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Shifting gears, although I never did learn how to drive a standard.

I've been described as a "social chameleon" and pride myself at being able to make necessary adjustments without losing integrity.

Sitting quietly and observing the world is one of my favorite things to do.
The first things people usually notice about me

I look younger than I am.

I'm all over the map here but if it moves laugh, cry or has got my attention.

Music examples from my current playlist:
Billy Joel, Tom Waits, Muse, The Gaslight Anthem, David Gray, Mumford and Sons, Justin Timberlake, Fun, The Constellations, Tool, Damien Rice, Jeff Buckley, Kings of Leon, Stererophonics...

I no longer have TV but in my Netlix Queue are such gems as Mad Men, Hell on Wheels, Breaking Bad, Arrested Development and Twin Peaks.

I read a lot: Robbins, Roth, Irving, Bukowski, Palanhniuk, Carr, Faulkner, Sartre, Kierkegaard, Shakespeare...I'm currently reading my way through the Game of Thrones series and I'm excited to report that I haven't fallen in love with a book like this in a very long time.

I am 100% in my element in two very distinct situations:
1.) a dive bar in a baseball cap drinking bottled beer and eating buffalo wings.
2.) savoring a long drawn out multi-course tasting menu with wine pairing. Yes, we will have dessert.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
Deprivation is the greatest motivator of behavior.

I try very hard to be a bit of a minimalist.

That said, here are 6 things I prefer to have around:
• Cinnamon
• That moment when you consume something and it makes you tingle and then swoon a little
• Rainy Sundays
• A good scotch
• My crazy fuzzball of a cat
• Inspirational writing, be it literature or lyrics.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I inventory my happiness quite often and adjust accordingly.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Grabbing a glass (or 2) of scotch at my favorite bar after work, picking up some Thai or Indian take out on my way home and curling up for a relatively early night. I really enjoy early morning starts on Saturdays.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I swore I would never do this again. I'm not sure what that says about my word.

Also, I'm a sucker for brown eyes, facial hair, glasses and tattoos. Not surprisingly, I used to live in VT and now reside in Cambridge.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You're smart and educated (not necessarily in the traditional sense). You're passionate about something. You're thoughtful and creative and not afraid to show it.

You're interested in trying and genuinely appreciating good food and beer. You think you can surprise me. Romantic gestures make you smile.

You're honest, attentive, and straightforward. These things aren't difficult, they just require a set of balls. So hopefully you're carrying a pair around. You'll need them.

Billy Joel lyrics don't cause you to throw up in your mouth a little.
