My self-summary
I'm a young professional who takes her career seriously but not much else. I love learning! I recently discovered that when I got what I consider to be my last degree and then enrolled in an online school 4 months later. I guess there's just too much in this world and it's all so exciting, how could I ever say I was done?

This seems to be a thing on these sorts of sites, but if you care to know, my online Myers Briggs personality test comes back INFJ, which lines me up with Hitler, Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, Ghandi, Carrie Fisher, & Billy Crystal. So it kind of balances out...I mean, almost...I hope.

I personify the Simon Pegg definition of a geek: "Being a geek is all about being honest about what you enjoy and not being afraid to demonstrate that affection. It means never having to play it cool about how much you like something. It’s basically a license to proudly emote on a somewhat childish level rather than behave like a supposed adult. Being a geek is extremely liberating.”

To that end, I enjoy so many, many things! I love light, comics, running, theatre, obstacle courses, sci-fi, poetry, baking, and cartoons!

In terms of what I'm looking for, I love a sense of humor above all. I'd like to meet someone kind, funny, driven, comfortable in their own skin, and energetic enough to keep up. I want to meet someone who makes me feel like a kid going outside to play when I go to meet them. I believe life is a big game of Calvinball. You in?
What I’m doing with my life
I earned my MFA in lighting design in June '12 and now work for a lighting design company doing event lighting. The hours are long and weird but I dig it. Between work and studying VFX online, I keep a pretty packed schedule but I love the path I've chosen!

I'd also quite like to be a superhero should the need arise, so I'm trying to improve my physical condition with distance running and ridiculous obstacle courses.
This is my latest passion:

I love charmingly failing at any and all sports. I like running, Krav Maga, and crossfit. Anything to get the heart pumping that is just a little bit out of the ordinary. I used to rock climb quite a bit but that's one more thing I had to sacrifice on the altar of career and academic success. I still have the harness. I'm not giving up.

Mostly I just want to be a source of good in the world. I want to make lives better and leave a dent behind where I fought back to be a nice person in a world that doesn't seem to reward it very often. And I don't think it's all about charities and functions and fundraising either. Just putting good out there can have a huge effect.
I’m really good at
Retaining information that I will never, ever need.

Picking out Christmas presents.

Flower arranging. I use a mallet.

Obscure references to classic British comedy.

Baking the basics but making them taste beyond the ordinary.

Alliteration?
The first things people usually notice about me
Probably my eyes. Definitely my height. I refuse to not wear heels when I'm going out, just because it makes me 6'1"
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Books: Song of Ice and Fire, anything by Terry Pratchett, World War Z. I find I read a lot of books that I grab at the airport, but only once and then pack them with me whenever I move. I took several poetry classes in college and am a sucker for a well-written poem. I used to read voraciously but it's fallen by the wayside a bit with school and my new job. I have a pile of books on my nightstand and it's a summer resolution to take more time to enjoy a book with a cup of tea or a glass of lemonade, and then who shall say I am not the happy genius of my household?

Movies: Pixar, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, anything Monty Python (memorized), anything Mel Brooks, anything Marvel, anything Batman, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, the Rocketeer, Serenity, Watchmen, Lord of the Rings, Miyazaki, Princess Bride, Zombieland. The list continues! I'm really excited about just about any movie. I even like the not so good ones, provided they're rifftrax...'ed?

TV: Doctor Who, Firefly, Parks and Rec, Community, Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Scrubs, Lost, Monty Python, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Batman: The Animated Series...again, I really love the medium.

Music:
(Are you tired of lists yet?)
Foo Fighters, Mumford and Sons, Florence and the Machine, Flight of the Conchords, Flogging Molly, Imagine Dragons, Proclaimers, The Who, Tenacious D, The Beatles, The Lumineers, Electric Light Orchestra...they're my jam.

I'm a big fan of the Nerdist podcast as well, as long as we're getting down with the audio favorites. It makes my commute so much more enjoyable!
The six things I could never do without
I could do without a lot of things, I suppose. I'm fairly lucky.
I really like my family. I'm very invested in my friends and my health. Toothpaste is a big 'un.

I could never do without something to do, which sounds very Dr. Seuss but I'm really just fidgety.

I guess that's only five...let's just add pineapple for good measure. If I were stranded on a desert island, I would quite like a pineapple bush. And for that island to be Kawaii, if I get to pick two things.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
How to get a career that will one day completely win my child's career day. You didn't know you could win at career day, did you? Well, you can and I will.

Batman

How to have a life around my job.

Where I haven't been yet and how to get there.

Paying off student loans. So far, so good!
On a typical Friday night I am
Lately, I'm at work. Most people like to have their events on the weekend and events are my business now.

If I have the option, I'm a big fan of wine, Netflix, and unwinding. I also like the Oxford comma. If you're still with me on that one, well done!

Not opposed to going out either, there's just so many people out there and I genuinely dislike clubs. My interest in other people is directly proportional to how much I can hear them. If I can't hear you, how can we talk? I only know a few words of sign language and I can't keep saying "I'm sorry. I don't know. My turtle pooped?" It will get old.
I’m looking for
  • Straight guys only
  • Ages 25–28
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For long-term dating, short-term dating, activity partners
You should message me if
-you like making people smile.
-you're up for talking nerdy.
-you commit to the bit.
-you feel like you need to occasionally be Batman.
-you understand that the romance that comes from a "just because" gesture means more than the size of the gesture.
-a bottle of wine and Netflix is your idea of a good night.
-you're down with going wine tasting with me and treating me like a lady and then watching UFC at a bar with me so I can yell at a TV.
-your idea of a romantic night spot and an impenetrable fortress are the same thing.
-you got that last one. I like a fella that can keep up.

-you like doing things on dates. That sounds obvious but I'm much more comfortable walking around, cooking, or enjoying some activity other than sitting and eating.
