My self-summary
I'm an honest, intelligent guy who enjoys learning new things.

I enjoy playing the violin, watching movies, video games, playing cards and some TV; mostly Discovery, TLC, History Channel, Adult Swim and comedies in general. I like doing things that get me outside the home such as bowling, going to parks, hitting the gym, and shooting pool among others. I'm also a voracious reader; anything from fantasy to tech manuals. I've always had strong interests in computers, music, astronomy, weather and machinery/cars, so I guess you could say I'm a bit of a geek. I like to meet cool people that I can hold a interesting conversation with, but am also a great listener. I'm open to trying new things and am always up for having a good time. I'm not much of a partier, though I do enjoy going out, and I'm just as content to lounge around at home and enjoy some games or movies with some friends.

I have some interest in photography, enough that I went and bought an expensive camera, but I haven't used it much. I like to travel, especially road trips because I enjoy driving, but I haven't had the free time to rove around much for a while, else I'd probably be using that camera a lot more. I haven't been out of the country yet, but there are many places I'd like to visit including Japan, Ireland, Australia and several others. It's not just seeing the sights that interests me, but immersing myself in a different culture. That's why I took all those Japanese classes in high school; maybe one day I'll get to use it.

My creative side doesn't get as much of a workout as I'd like these days between work and school, but I do enjoy drawing. I used to have some talent when I was younger, so I've been trying to redevelop that ability. I also like to write sometimes when the mood strikes me. I'm a bit of a romantic, and that will occasionally influence my writing. It also influences how I handle relationships. I'm all about elaborate, romantic nights on the town. Whimsical, random, or casual dates are also great, but I've always enjoyed putting together something a little more classy and memorable now and then.

Altogether, I like to have a good time and I can be fairly creative in discovering ways to have it.

I am altruistic, intelligent, and funny
What I’m doing with my life
Academically, I'm a student at Wichita State University working toward a BS in computer science. While I'm currently a mechanic at an aerospace manufacturer, I've done interim IT work and intend to become an IT professional once I have that shiny piece of paper hanging on my wall. The plan is then to continue working toward a masters degree.

Outside of that, I'm just enjoying what life brings me.
I’m really good at
Making people laugh, and finding the humor in almost any situation. I have a... unique sense of humor that is sometimes wry, but making people laugh and smile has always come easily to me.

As a long-time collector of useless facts and trivia, I'm also pretty good with insightful and entertaining quotes; Chinese and Japanese proverbs to sagacious pearls of wisdom from Futurama and Family Guy. After all, "The ability to quote is a serviceable substitute for wit."

I'm also good at random acts of kindness! While I'm all about chivalry and treating a lady well, I mean off-the-wall stuff. If you're behind me at a drive-thru, you may get to the window to discover I paid for your food. If you've had a down week at work, you might find a vase of flowers on your desk with a card that only has your name. And the woman that I'm with may find a rose and a necklace in a gift box when they open their fridge, for no other reason than it's Wednesday. Does there need to be a special occassion for an occassion to become special? So I guess that also means I'm good at being a hopeless romantic.
The first things people usually notice about me
My eyes. They're usually green and yellow, sometimes blue and yellow. Either way, I always have a ring of yellow around the iris. They're fairly unique, and I've been told they're dazzling.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
My favorite books include the Wheel of Time series, the Running With the Demon trilogy and the Harry Potter series. I read things some people might find boring, though, like tech manuals, college textbooks, and the like. I actually used to read dictionaries when I was little, so great was my desire to learn. I mostly stick to fantasy stuff these days.

I like a variety of movies; especially comedies and action movies. I also like theme movies, such as zombies and vampires. I really enjoy going to the drive-in on Saturday nights for their triple-features.

My musical taste is pretty varied. I listen to a little bit of everything, but I'm not a big fan of rap. I also enjoy Asian music, especially Japanese (Boku wa nihongo no seito deshita.). I love Celtic and folk music, so I'm a big fan of Celtic Woman and Loreena McKennitt. Some other favorite bands include Evanescence, Dream Theater, Journey, Kamelot, Within Temptation, Conjure One, Leaves' Eyes and Lacuna Coil. I enjoy classical music and go to see the symphony orchestra play when I can, or an opera on the rare occasion. I also listen to a bit of techno, prog, and rock. Like I said, a little bit of everything. I've recently really gotten into symphonic metal and have fallen in love with Nightwish and Sirenia. The violin is my passion, and so I love any music that is written for or prominently features violins, including arrangements and covers. Lucia Micarelli is a beast; if she plays it, I'll probably love it.

I love food, but I'm terrible at making it. I'm trying to teach myself to cook, and while I have a ways to go I am improving. My favorite ethnic foods are Chinese and Japanese, but I also enjoy Italian and Mexican. While I'm not the greatest cook, I'm pretty handy with a grill (though, every guy should be) and have my own recipe for great burgers. I have a particular weakness for steak and fettuccini alfredo.

4. My job
5. A good book
6. A good laugh
I spend a lot of time thinking about
My future. Life has taught me that you can't plan or predict everything, though. Still, I have ambitions for my future and I work hard to see those goals come to fruition.
On a typical Friday night I am
Up for anything, really. I could just as easily stay in and watch a movie or play games as I could go out and hit a club, a theater, or whatever sounds fun at the time.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I was an internationally published poet at the age of 18. Yes, I was actually paid for it, not a vanity publisher! It's been a while since I've written anything significant, though.

Wait, are we supposed to say something embarrassing? In that case, I've been moved to tears on multiple occasions by the soundtrack to Journey, the only video game ever to have its musical score nominated for a Grammy. The composer, Austin Wintory, is a big hero of mine.
