My Notes edit

My self-summary

There's a lot of things that could be said here, most of them narcissistic in the extreme. I like to think of myself as unique and generally try to avoid doing things because it's the "in" thing to do. Don't get me wrong, if it's fun and I enjoy it, I'll probably try, but I don't like to find myself in a big rut all the time.

With all due modesty, I'm a pretty smart guy, and intelligence is important to me, especially in someone with the potential to be a romantic interest. That doesn't mean I want someone with a 160 IQ and knows everything in the world already, what I'm really looking for is someone who is eager to learn all they can.

My number one interest recently has been driving. I'm starting to learn how to drive on a racetrack (not an oval, but a street course) and I intend to continue to learn to drive my Subaru Impreza STI at every opportunity . Going hand in hand with that, I've been working with a local car mod shop to help them with the aerodynamics of cars and how it's important in racing and other aspects. Since my engineering degree is in Aerospace, I know this area pretty well. (If you're wondering what I meant by that, read http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/12/science/12tier.html?pagewanted=2&ei=5087&em&en=20245a449f7b30e6&ex=1202965200 ) In the meantime, my day job will continue for now.

I seem to have gotten a little out of control on the car-talk, so I think I should get back to my true nerd roots. There's a pretty darn good chance that if you could see me right now, I'm either A) sitting in front of a computer (at work, or playing at home) or B) I have my nose in some kind of book. I love reading with a passion and ever since my parents gave me a book, I'm loathe to put them down. Books are my imagination's playground and I can easily lose myself in a story. As far as books go, I'll try anything once.

Next up, computers. At work I use it constantly in the course of my job, but you'd think I'd want to get away from them when I got home. This isn't usually the case. I love computer games, and play when I have time.

In conjunction with my self-proclaimed "nerd" status, I also very much enjoy reading manga and watching anime. There are all kinds of good stories out there, from sci-fi, to romance, to drama and horror. (Go Vampires!) I have a strong distaste for people who think anime is just cartoons, because it's really a lot more than that.

One of my more recent vice's is writing poetry and vocal music. Long ago, I discovered I loved to sing at church, but for whatever reason I chose band in secondary school. In college I turned this around, joined a choir and started taking voice lessons. I sing tenor primarily on classical and broadway music, but I'll sing whatever's in my head. (Not rap or country though!) As for poetry, I've posted some of it in my journal, so feel free to stop by and read that. The urge to write comes and goes, and sometimes I can really feel inspired and a poem will come out fully formed. The rest of the time it's just garbage. Oh well, what can ya do. Favorite poet you ask? Kipling, by far.

So what about outdoor activities? I grew up on a lake, so I feel at home in the water and I swim for exercise at the gym. It's fun and it calms my mind. Being from Michigan, I also grew up on the ski slopes. Downhill skiing is probably the activity at which I'm best at and I was on the Ski Racing team in High School. In the summer I also like to golf but I'm not that exceptional at it. It's just fun. After my family tour of the National Parks, I also like hiking, especially when you get good views from it. After visiting a lot of them, Glacier National park is what I consider to be the most beautiful spot in the world.

My additional interests are cooking and boardgames. Feel free to chat with me about anything since I'm sure I missed a few.
