Books: I read almost everything: fiction, memoir, science. My
favorites usually end up being young adult fiction. Harry Potter,
The Giver, His Dark Materials. David Sedaris and James Herriot are
my personal heroes; Chelsea Handler, Malcom Gladwell, and Michael
Pollan are good reads, too.
Movies: The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and The Wizard of
Oz, Star Wars (ep. 4-6) are childhood favorites I could watch
endlessly. Moulin Rouge, Shawshank Redemption, Eternal Sunshine of
the Spotless Mind, The Sessions, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,
Amadeus, and Lolita are all perfect films. Many, many others
deserve mention but so little space.
TV: The Colbert Report & The Daily Show with Jon Stewart are
the only ones I watch regularly, the others I have enjoyed on
Battlestar Galactica, Flight of the Conchords, Bones, House, The
Office, Firefly. In high school I was obsessed with the X-Files and
loved the Simpsons.
Music: I hesitate to even acknowledge the music I like for the
little bearing I feel it has on making a connection with someone. I
have very limited and often poor taste and am too lazy to acquire a
liking for anything that doesn't sound pleasing the first time
around. I'm more top 10 than top 40 because I like so little of
what I hear (but it's not really my fault. I'm addicted:
What I listen to I listen to intensely, usually singing with or
dancing to it (which is why it is a fairly private activity for
me). I consider it a personal failure that I haven't cultivated a
refined taste in music, but it is one I've learned to live with. It
doesn't mean I don't find musicians disproportionately sexier than
non-musicians. I have a terrible, terrible weakness for guitar
I listen to Top 40 (deal with it) and NPR in the car. I love almost
all their shows, especially "Wait! Wait! Don't tell me!"
Food: Foodie though I am, my hands-down favorite foods are ice
cream and pizza. You just can't be disappointed with a dinner of of
Ben & Jerry's and Domino's.
I despise sushi and anything spicier than black pepper.
