I am outspoken, imaginative, and steadfast.
My Self-Summary
If you want to get carried away in something greater than yourself,
I'm the girl to have alongside you. I grew up in Washington State,
and justspent four years in Louisville, Kentucky. I voted for
Dennis Kucinich in the 2004 presidential election, and could, any
day, still pledge him my undying political support - I won't pledge
anyone my allegiance. I love the smell of saltwater, the sound and
rhythm of the Spanish language, the slow pace and thorough work of
committee meetings, the hidden delights of grammar construction,
and contemplating the interrelationship between politics, theology,
and social action.
What I’m doing with my life
I live in Juarez City, where I coordinate short term service
learning trips and make a profession of knowing my city and knowing
the church here. It's a good, but rather untethered, life so far.
I'm a Presbyterian minister, but I'm also a pluralist - that means
I get along quite well with non-Christians, but probably am looking
for someone who supports religion if they don't practice it
themselves.
I’m really good at
talking to people with dementia. Finding theological language for
political passions. Navigating the city-bus system without getting
lost. Building consensus. Charming the border patrol at crossing
points.
The first things people usually notice about me
I'm outspoken but gentle, and have one of the most distinctive
laughs (actually, similar to a bray) you'll ever hear.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
The six things I could never do without
Public Transportation
A Library Card
Religious Community
Backbone
Small patches of yellow
My glasses :)
I spend a lot of time thinking about
bringing light, liberation, and justice to the dark corners of
human existence.
On a typical Friday night I am
exploring the novelties of new (or renewing) cities.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit here
I never know how to respond when a) people ask me if I'm fluent in
Spanish, or (if a native speaker) say b) oh, so you speak a little
Spanish? I'm strong enough in the language to have spent a year and
a half of my life translating phone calls, but calling myself
fluent, or correcting those who suggest I only speak a little,
seems rather cocky.....
You should message me if
you care to indulge my terrible habit of talking to strangers.
