My self-summary
Hello, I'm Kieran. I am not a serial killer. I'm a human person and I'm not sure about this whole 'self-summary' thing. How do you find the right balance between being really wanky and self-deprecating?

I might come back to this later, actually.
What I’m doing with my life
MA in Film Studies. Can't quite figure out why other than 'why not?' Trying to figure out the next step.

Maybe I should move away from a step-based model altogether and move towards a more water-like approach, moving between solid, liquid and gas as appropriate at each decision. Maybe I'm halfway there already, the lily-pad approach - solid under duress but yielding to gentle pressure. Maybe I've dragged out this metaphor too far and you've already stopped reading.
I’m really good at
Fist pumping - football matches, low-key victories, the dropping of stellar tunes or some other subversive activities, if a fist needs pumping, I'm your man.

Waffling - see above/ below/ mail me.
The first things people usually notice about me
That I look like my brother, which places our parents in a particular (good) moral light.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Music: I'm listening to Digitalism as I type this, Leonard Cohen put on the best concert I've ever been to and, as a 14yr old, I wrote the lyrics to Love Will Tear Us Apart on the cover of my copy of Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, right across poor Cassie's forehead, it improved the reading experience immeasurably. I'm into all sorts of stuff, from Talking Heads to Burial, Simon and Garfunkel to Death Grips, etc. etc. etc. I don't tend to get snooty about the popular stuff, even if I find great pleasure in finding obscure gems, sometimes a boy just needs to express himself through dance. It's rare, but it happens.

I've been trying to scrobble recently, if you desire more detail:

Books: I finished Lord of the Flies last night, good lord, great read. I started If I Die in a Combat Zone this afternoon, I already really like Tim O'Brien so I'm a bit biased but he is a really good writer, every second sentence is imbued with the sort of meaningful utterances of truth that (I hope) we all strive for in our lives. After that I've The Sorrow of War, Parade's End and Huckleberry Finn lined up, so there's light at the end of a long, dark tunnel. Beyond my current reading list, I've been a fan for years of Lemony Snicket and Stephen King, I think I just like to read about nasty stuff happening.

I've also recently tried a bit of poetry, I've been leafing through a few anthologies and I think I like the Americans the best. I'll keep you updated.

Movies: I feel considerable pressure to fill a list of masterpieces but I've only seen one Tarkovsky film (Stalker - I loved it) so I'd feel like a spoof. I do enjoy trips to the cinema but most blockbusters are hit-and-miss. I'm a big fan of genre movies, especially weird ones made in the 70s. I really dig Malick, Wes Anderson, PT Anderson and Scorsese, too, but whom among the serious makers of these lists doesn't? If you want a quick top 5, I'd maybe say: The Conversation, Mean Streets, AKIRA, Badlands and Oldboy.
I've also tried my hand at making a short film, but directing isn't really for me, I prefer to write and edit. I find them more fun, maybe it's the inherent solitude.
The six things I could never do without
Beyond the stock hahaclever answer 'air', I don't think I've found much things I can't do without, yet. I mean, I'm certainly not ungrateful, but the thought of being able to list off six essentials for my continued happiness is daunting to say the least.
I think anyone on this site is probably lying to themselves if they can fill up a list of six things they could never do without without referencing the reason they're on here. So there's my reference.

Maybe I should've left this one blank.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
What I shouldn't be thinking about. Food, fiction and sleep.
On a typical Friday night I am
Either at home or causing havoc in town. Perfectly happy to do either, but I need to find a balance between the two. The scale is always tipped one way or the other.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
All Saints' Pure Shores is an absolute anthem.
