My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
I'm just a normal guy who's been wandering the world in search of a romantic dream.

I'm a former ESL teacher and would-be writer, presently leading a rather random life. I used to be heavy into politics, but it's just a source of cheap entertainment for me now. In my downtime, I play obscure video games, write short stories and read constantly - mostly nonfiction as I find most novels overly verbose and poorly written in general. (Snobbery!) I just enjoy the creative process, even when it doesn't work out (and it usually doesn't). I've published a few things, to very limited success.

Artificial structure makes me itch. That's probably why I up and decided to leave the country. Ironically, I hate traveling - I never get anything out of it. Seeing a place from the inside is a lot different.

This is mostly an attempt to meet new people. I'm hoping to make some contacts with people in whatever city I wind up in. I get along better with women than men, and always have - even as a child.

There's a fair bit of hanzi on this page, remnants of an earlier build of this site that had a multi-language feature. I find it charming enough to leave it. Go ahead and ask me about it, I'm always happy to talk about these things.

你好! 我的名字江斯顿。我的中文是不很好,可是越来越好。
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I have a degree in political science and a general idea of what to do with it. I've spent the last few years teaching ESL in China, but I'm definitely done with that. I'm presently doing some writing - I've done a non-fiction book and part of an anthology already.

I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Singing, writing, and putting up with stupid people (not necessarily in that order). I'm also good at math, but it doesn't interest me. I wish I was better with foreign languages, but I'm working on it. As it is, I know enough Mandarin to not starve. Literally, as it turns out.

The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Well, you'd have to ask other people, wouldn't you? Judging by my experience, most people don't notice me. I think most people assume that I'm cold because I don't really express my emotions, but that's simply not the case.

b - The Shawshank Redemption, Dr. Strangelove, Rain Man, Memento, anything by the Coen brothers, The Artist, Pan's Labyrinth, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Training Day, Clerks, Dogma

c - REM, Public Enemy, Weezer, the Toasters, Badly Drawn Boy, Queens of the Stone Age, Talib Kweli, Del the Funky Homosapien, Gorillaz, Cake, Matisyahu, Radiohead, Chris Thomas King, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, Green Day

d - Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean (so it's regional, sue me), but I mostly go for simple foods. I'm constantly searching for a better BLT.
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
A notebook, a supply of Altoids, a decent book, comfortable shoes, someplace with a door I can lock, and (of course) a doomsday device (for duck-huntin'). Actually, I've spent most of the past year without access to any of the above (including the mutated anthrax) so maybe I should reconsider this...
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
I spend a lot of time thinking in general. 96% of the time, it's my latest idea for a book/movie/etc. The rest of the time it's random crap.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
I don't know, at home? Maybe at a bar if there's a decent one near where I live.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
. . . would no longer be private. Ask and ye shall receive.
