My Notes edit

My self-summary

Lately, I've been rediscovering many things I once loved but somehow forgot about. That can happen to the best of us, I think, the forgetting part, that is. And, now that the scales have fallen from my eyes, I'm noticing many other lovely things around me as well.

La la la I'm a butterfly. Yeah, that's it.

What I'm doing with my life

I work. I do this, that, and the other thing, and then I go home. Please don't call me there with your tech support problems.

I'm actually having a great deal of fun chatting and nattering with people here on OKC and on Facebook: the shy girl takes off her glasses, pulls the pins out of her hair, shakes it loose, and

I'm really good at

I'm a crack copy editor. I am also pretty good at cooking, growing things, and wrangling computers (and users of computers). I give good email.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

That I'm quiet.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

I like: Discovering new music on XM radio and the local college station (recent favorites are Ladytron and Caribou); Octavia Butler, Philip K. Dick, Robert Charles Wilson, Margaret Atwood, John Fowles; almost all post-punk, Pere Ubu, The Akron Sound, 60’s garage rock (Nuggets & Pebbles); C.R.A.Z.Y, Dr. Strangelove, Being John Malkovich, thrillers with good plots; history and biographies; cooking for people and trying new recipes.

I hate: Phil Collins; anything by Nora Ephron, esp. Sleepless in Seattle; movies where the little doggie gets saved awwwww ; the Pina Colada Song; people who are angry and fuming all the time; Weekly Standard magazine; canned peas.

I used to like and now I don’t: Wm. Faulkner; the Who, the Police, and a whole bunch of pop bands-—songs that consist of the same line or chorus repeated over and over have really begun to grate on my nerves; Jack Nicholson and Al Pacino (don’t they have enough money to rest on their laurels and stop inflicting themselves on us?); Bad Company, Foreigner, Heart, et al. – I grew up and so did my tastes.

Not on my radar at all: romance novels; most mysteries; hard science; “hard” science fiction; most horror fiction/movies (though I did like 28 Days Later and 1408); dirt biking and motocross; most sports.

On my bedside table: Thomas Ricks, Fiasco; Joyce Carol Oates, Them; a bunch of science fiction short story collections from the ‘70s because I’m on a kick; The Surrender (yes, that book; I’m finding it by turns funny, sublime, but mostly ridiculous).

The six things I could never do without

Books, booze, music, cats, and the use of my legs, hands, and eyes. And a coffee-making machine.

Well, I could live without booze or coffee, but it would be a mere existence. The other items are non-negotiable.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Every roommate/partner I've ever lived with reports that I have screaming nightmares from time to time. I think about lots of things during the day; who knows what the hell is going through my mind at night? Worries about global warming? Nuclear war? That my retirement account has dwindled away and I'll end up having to eat cat food when I'm a lonely old lady?

More likely it's the (in-the-dream) realization that I've arrived at a meeting having forgotten to put on my pants..

On a typical Friday night I am

On a Netflix binge.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

There might be a small bald spot on the back of my head, but only my hairdresser knows for sure.

You should message me if

You've got a brain and a civil tongue in your head.
