Faulkner; the Who, the Police, and a whole bunch of pop bands-—songs that consist of the same line or chorus repeated over and over have really begun to grate on my nerves; Jack Nicholson and Al Pacino (don’t they have enough money to rest on their laurels and stop inflicting themselves on us?); Bad Company, Foreigner, Heart, et al. – I grew up and so did my tastes.
Not on my radar at all: romance novels; most mysteries; hard science; “hard” science fiction; most horror fiction/movies (though I did like 28 Days Later and 1408); dirt biking and motocross; most sports.
On my bedside table: Thomas Ricks, Fiasco; Joyce Carol Oates, Them; a bunch of science fiction short story collections from the ‘70s because I’m on a kick; The Surrender (yes, that book; I’m finding it by turns funny, sublime, but mostly ridiculous).

Every roommate/partner I've ever lived with reports that I have
screaming nightmares from time to time. I think about lots of
things during the day; who knows what the hell is going through my
mind at night? Worries about global warming? Nuclear war? That my
retirement account has dwindled away and I'll end up having to eat
cat food when I'm a lonely old lady?
More likely it's the (in-the-dream) realization that I've arrived at a meeting having forgotten to put on my pants..
