I am anachronistic, nilpotent, and bemused.

My Self-Summary

Mostly harmless.

What I’m doing with my life

Working to pay bills while trying to figure out something better to do with my life. Trying to find ways to kill time on the weekends when there are only so many movies worth watching.

I’m really good at

Everything, and nothing, at the same time. I am somewhat decent at playing the violin, but I almost never play it nowadays. I'm also a mildly competitive, but horribly inconsistent, tennis player, although I haven't played in a while. Oh, I'm also pretty good at math, although I'm really rusty from not using it much lately, and I also kind of hate it, with a passion. It's complicated.

The first things people usually notice about me

I'm rather quiet. I don't really talk very much, but when I do it's at least mildly interesting (I think). I don't really care for meaningless small talk. Also, I tend not to make a whole lot of noise when I walk around, for some reason.

Also, I've been complimented on my eyes quite a bit, mostly by girls, but since I don't particularly care for them myself, it's rare for me to let anyone get a good look at them. Rare, but not impossible.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: I don't read much, and most of the books I've read were for school. I occasionally buy books that I want to read, but for various reasons never get around to finishing them. Right now, I seem to like the works of Samuel Beckett, for some reason, and Les Chants de Maldoror by Le Comte de Lautréamont. I can recall liking Big Fish: A Novel of Mythic Proportions (Daniel Wallace, and as is usally the case, the book is better than the movie and although the movie wasn't unwatchable, I just don't like it that much), The Phantom of the Opera (Gaston Leroux, the Persian is an interesting character that just doesn't seem to show up in most movie or stage versions), and Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions (Edwin Abbott Abbott). Just looking over at a stack of books I'm trying to read, I see: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Douglas Adams), Notes from Underground (Dostoyevsky), a book of essays and such by Thomas Jefferson, Star Wars and Philosophy, My Horizontal Life and Are You There, Vodka? It's me, Chelsea (Chelsea Handler), a book on Algebra (and no, not the "solve for x" kind of Algebra), a book on Number Theory, a book on logic, some books on the Holocaust, The Nibelungenlied, The Art of War (Sun Tzu), Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance (Robert Pirsig), and last but not least (or smallest...), Ulysses (James Joyce). And that's just what I can see right now.

Movies: Glengarry Glen Ross was good, and slightly better than the actual play it was based on. I'm a bit of a sucker for Alice in Wonderland movies. Comedies are good, when they are funny. Horror movies are fun, but I like monster movies more. Some random movies I liked:
Schizopolis, The 10th Kingdom, Natural Born Killers, Pi, Requiem for a Dream, Dragonheart, Jack Frost (the one with the killer snowman, not the lame Michael Keaton movie), A Clockwork Orange, LA Confidential, The Shawshank Redemption, The Hudsucker Proxy.

Music: I listen to bad 80s music, and music by bands that have been around since at least the 80s, which is weird since I was barely alive then, the some 90s music, and very rarely current stuff. Some bands: Rasputina, Cannibal Corpse, New Order, Joy Division, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Unfinished Thought, Coal Chamber, The Smashing Pumpkins, Iron Maiden, Iced Earth, Children of Bodom, A Flock of Seagulls.

Food: I don't eat very well, mostly just fast food. I eat a lot of burgers, but pizza is pretty good, and so is the occasional chicken fried steak.

The six things I could never do without

I know I need my vision, since I don't think I could survive if I was blind.
A car, since public transportation in my neighborhood kind of sucks.
Soda, since it is tasty.
Some form of entertainment.
Money, although I don't require all that much of it...

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Everything. My brain doesn't seem to shut down, so it is always thinking about something. Mostly work, and what to do outside of work. I hit a sort of mental block a while back and I'm trying to find ways to get my mind back in shape.

On a typical Friday night I am

At home, doing nothing, trying to think of an interesting way to get through the weekend. I don't get out much.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

My name isn't actually Wally.

You so choose.
