I am uncommon, unconventional, and unmatched!.

My Self-Summary

I'm lucky enough to be leading an interesting and blessed life. First, the two blessings of my kids, ages 17 and 21. At least, they are on most days...if you have kids, I'm sure you know what I mean!
Then, there's my career. As a financial manager for an industrial manufacturing company, my job is quite demanding, and requires a lot of travel. I do spend about 25% of my time overseas, so my dating life is somewhat hindered by geography and career demands. But it does keep my life from getting too mundane.
On the mixed-blessing list, I sometimes feel like I've had to choose between having a partner, and having a successful career. It almost seems that the more success I have in my career, the chances of my finding a compatible partner get lower...I hope you're the kind of guy that can prove me wrong!

What I’m doing with my life

I'm raising two young adults, while managing a demanding career. And, I hang out with my girlfriends once or twice a week to knit (aka stitch and bitch). I also enjoy mentoring 20-something women in pursuing their education and career goals.

I’m really good at

Learning. I can say courtesy words like hello, please, thank you, and order a beer in at least 4 languages. When I get tired of knitting, I try to teach myself more Chinese and French.

The first things people usually notice about me

I speak my mind.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Favorite food - Mediterranean style - garlic, olive oil, lemon, seafood, medium rare steaks, and dessert!
Books - Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert (I gotta get to Italy), the Clan of the Cave Bear series, historical fiction in general, business books (The No Asshole Rule is a personal favorite)
Movies - Juno, The Full Monty, Little Miss Sunshine
Music - Hootie & the Blowfish, Matchbox 20, The Fray, Lifehouse, Jethro Tull, Eric Clapton, and various other artists my kids refer to as "geezer rock."

The six things I could never do without

1. family
2. passion (for SOMETHING...family, career, hobby, etc.) I've found you can't teach passion, and life is boring without it.
3. American Express card (I don't leave home without it!), blackberry & passport (OK, maybe I'll call this my purse, and the contents therein).
4. a good book, OR a knitting project (for long plane, train or bus rides, or waiting in airports)
5. caffeine in some form
6. a comfortable pair of shoes on my feet (I'll wear heels when I must, but if your feet hurt, so does the rest of you).

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Improving working capital and profitability, affording a college education for my kids, hoping the kids are using condoms, if I have coffee, milk, and red wine in the house (those are the three major food groups, aren't they?), how much gas is in my gas tank (I drive quite a bit), which office or airport I'm supposed to show up at in the morning, what day it is, and time zone I'm in, where is my computer (if it's not right in front of me), yarn and my next knitting project, not necessarily in that order.

On a typical Friday night I am

recovering from a busy week, usually with a glass or two of good red wine and a decent meal (one that doesn't come from a box from my freezer, or in a paper bag).

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

My children are my best wardrobe consultants.

You should message me if

you're interested...and are looking for companionship, with the idea of a mutually monogomous partnership in mind. You're smiling in your profile pictures (at least one of them, anyway). If you have kids, you're raising them to be reasonably contributing members of society. You have a big enough family (medical science has closed my baby factory.) You understand that I have a demanding career, which means I won't be home at 5:00 every night cooking your dinner. You have a passport, and you're not afraid to get on an airplane. Or can be drugged enough to get on an airplane. Oh, and you don't mind if my dog sleeps on the bed. (I have a king size bed, and he's 14 pounds, so he doesn't take up much room!)
