My self-summary
*FYI: I've made quite a few journal posts, some of which I think
are actually pretty good. Take a gander, if you have the time
:)
Also, another quick pre-script: I just wanted to politely ask that,
if I have messaged you, please write something back. I'm not asking
for much - just a little message is a-okay :) But please write
something. I'm only asking for the same courtesy I give to others.
It's not too much to ask, right?
Anywho, thanks a bundle :) Now, on to my wonderfully inane
profile...
Let's see, how do I describe who I am to you guys? Well, first off,
I suppose I'm a rather intellectual person. My thoughts and
feelings cover a vast range of subjects, of varying complexity and
importance. I have my outlooks and opinions on life, as do we all,
I suppose. Some would probably consider me a bit of a 'nerd' or
intellectual,
as I'm constantly pondering over various issues dealing with
spirituality,
existence, and
the like. Some may look at me and consider me too
introspective and
contemplative, but I
personally don't think that's possible. After all, the unexamined
life is not worth living, as one of those Greek guys said. You'd
think I'd remember who, but I don't. And it's 4 in the morning, so
I'm not going to bother looking it up. So there. Nyah.
Anyways, despite being such a 'thinker' (I use the term loosely, of
course; I think about a lot of things, but not necessarily
intelligent things. You dig?)I can live in the moment, when the
mood strikes me. You know, I'm a walking set of contradictions,
frankly. A friend of mine recently compared me to Bilbo Baggins, in
that I'm perfectly happy sitting around being a homebody, leaving
the outside world to it's own devices. However, if you throw me out
into the world at large, I tend to thrive in that arena, as well. I
can settle down or go on 'adventures', and I enjoy both with equal
enthusiasm.
And that's just one of my many contradictions, hehe :)
You know, I think I'm both more complicated, yet also simpler, than
I have made myself out to be. Uh, yeah, that makes sense...
Anyways, I really sound pretty dull and stupid trying to sum myself
up in a 'self-summary' like this. I've come to believe that you
don't know anyone until you've actually conversed with them, and
gotten to know them for yourself. The true
essence of a person is best discovered
through conversation. Wouldn't you agree?
...
You should be writing an eloquent, thoughtful, deep monologue of an
e-mail to me right about now, if you aren't already.
Thanks :)
.
OkCupid: Now in Spanish!
Uh, su tarjeta as muy bueno... aww, fuck it, I can't speak
Spanish...
What I'm doing with my life
Well, uh... nothing much right now. I was in college, until I
graduated a couple of weeks ago. Now... nuthin'. Still trying to
figure out what to do with my life. My aim is to work to my
strengths in order to accomplish the greatest possible amount of
good for the greatest possible number of people. Yeah... still not
sure how to do that :( Military? Government? Other? I just don't
know yet, and until I do, I have a feeling I'm going to be in
limbo. Still, I'm not complaining... not much, at least :) Above
all, I have faith in God through all this. I'm sure He will put me
where I am supposed to be.
Suffice it to say, we will see...
By the way, don't be freaked out that my religion is listed as
'Other'. OkCupid just didn't have the correct catagory to describe
my particular set of beliefs. I think I'm best described as a
'monotheist', in the Judeo-Christian tradition, although I'm pretty
open-minded about the ways in which I believe people can connect
with 'God'.
Anyways, the point is, I'm not sacrificing bulls to Zeus or
anything ;)
I'm really good at
Changing things, usually making them better in the process.
Simplifying complex things. Complicating simple things. Preparing
for the future.
Also, many years of playing video games as a replacement for normal
social interaction has given me exceptional hand-eye coordination.
Being a social outcast does have its advantages :}
...Oh, and I'm also good at singing along to Johnny Cash songs in
the car. I do a mean bass.
:)
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me
I really don't want to know, to be completely honest. I think
people's first impression is often that I am rather odd. I'd like
to think that my pleasant, affable nature is the first thing people
notice about me, but the look on their faces often indicates
otherwise...
Of course, this is my own slightly satirical, self-critical
evaluation of other people's reactions towards me. This question is
one best posed to the aforementioned "people", I'd say.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
a) Magazines, mostly.
National Geographic,
Popular
Science,
Popular Mechanics,
Motor Trend,
PC Gamer, and so on... I
have found myself liking a lot of my current history textbooks,
though. If that makes me a nerd, so be it, hehe :)
I'm also fond of 'The Death of Superman', a graphic novel from the
early 90's, for many reasons. Judge me if you must, but I'll
explain if you ask :) It says a lot about my character...
b) In no order whatsoever:
Star Wars (the original trilogy, and
Episode III, of course, although I and II are great entertainment)
Pulp Fiction
(the one, the only),
Saving Private Ryan,
Braveheart,
Lord of the
Rings trilogy (of course),
Lawrence of Arabia,
Casablanca (I have a
thing for Ingrid Bergman, so sue me...),
Boondock Saints,
The
Shawshank Redemption,
Kill Bill 1&2 (Quentin is the
man...),
Master and Commander,
The Good, the Bad
and the Ugly,
Groundhog Day, Dawn of the Dead
(2004), The Day After Tomorrow, pursuent to the last two, anything
post-apocalyptic and poignant, the Back to the Future trilogy,
Kingdom of
Heaven,
Serenity,
Eternal
Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,
i heart huckabees... uh...
yea, I think that's enough for now.
My current TV favorites are:
Star Trek: Deep Space 9 and The Next
Generation reruns on SpikeTV, as well as the Star Trek: Enterprise
seasons on DVD that I get through Netflix (I am really fulfilling
the geek stereotype, but I embrace such a distinction :} ).
Continuing on, let's see... oh yeah,
Band of Brothers (I'm a man,
I'm obsessed with war, what can I say...), and, finally,
Battlestar
Galactica (the new series on SciFi). It's absolutely amazing,
and if you haven't watched it yet, watch it. Just watch it.
Anyways, I think that's enough, right?
c) Hmm, that's a tough one. Let's see...
Classical, Movie
soundtracks (preferably 'epic'
movie soundtracks) Classic rock, assorted 80's and 90's rock, some
older country-ish and folk stuff, and a few relatively recent
selections. My current favorites are
Simon & Garfunkel
(something I reluctantly admit, I assure you),
The Decemberists,
Modest Mouse,
Johnny Cash,
Beatles,
Philip Glass,
Vivaldi and so on.
To be honest, I usually end up liking just about anything that
'sounds good', really. Never been a fan of rap, though, although I
hate to admit a little of it actually sounds kind of good to me.
Yea, it scares me too :(
Wow. That list was entirely too long. I apologize for that...
The six things I could never do without
1) Love, in all its many forms, in all its transcendant, glorious
splendor. Without it, I don't know where I would be. I shudder to
think. Sometimes, it is the only bulwark we have against the darker
things of this world. Thank God we have such a thing...
2) Friends and Family - obviously 3) My dog Rusty 4) My friend
Eddy, who suffers from a rare form of polio 5) The ability to
construct fake literary pets to emphasize my down-to-earth nature
and folksy goodness 6) The ability to construct a sympathy-inducing
literary friend, who emphasizes not only my abnormaly large sense
of caring and compassion, but also my heroically tender pathos for
the plight and condition of my fellow man (and woman, of course) 7)
My ability to add a seventh value to a list that is explicitely
limited to six items, thus making me feel like a rebel and a man
who knows how to live outside the bounds of normal society.
I love my list. Mmmm :}
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Everything and nothing, if I may deal in yet MORE contradictions,
lol. I think about everything from what I'm going to eat at my next
meal (moreso than I think most people do, heh), to what will become
of the planet Earth and the Human race.
Yep, it's that broad. That's me.
On a typical Friday night I am
Doing the menial tasks life demands, taking part in the pleasant
moments that life grants us in between these demands, or doing
neither. Duplicitous, but true, nonetheless...
Actually... was that triplicitous? Is triplicitous even a word? I
digress to comment further...
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here
I wish to ride into glorious battle atop a white steed, cutting a
bloody swath through my bewildered foes as they flee in panic and
terror!
Oh, and I like knitting.
Seriously, if you want to know something about me, why not ask? I
promise I won't be too playful in a personal message... if you
don't want me to be...
:}
You should message me if
Er, you want to? That seems like a pretty good reason to me. My
journals bring up some pretty good topics, I think. They really do
say a lot about me. Why not comment on one of 'em?
...Also, if you feel like maybe we could have a truly deep,
meaningful relationship, on the most transcendant, spiritually
entwined level humanly conceivable, I'd also like to talk with
you.
Oh yeah, and if you have big knockers! I love talking to chicks
with big knockers...
