I am Zany, Witty, and Loyal.

My Self-Summary

I moved from Houston to LA for school 8 years ago, and now I'm a Californian through and through except when it's football or basketball season, which I guess leaves only June-August! And so, although I spend my weekdays unlocking the mysteries of the universe, I'm trying to dip my big toe into show biz by taking improv classes and working on a stand-up routine, just in case I can't make it as a scientist! When not in lab, I can also be found on the squash courts or playing volleyball, although I'm not particularly skilled at either... yet. I'm looking to step outside of my current social circle and meet a cute girl who shares some interests and to have a good time with, possibly finding a love connection!

What I’m doing with my life

Graduate student in physics at UCLA, working towards my Ph.D.
I'm not yet sure what I want to do after graduation, but leaning towards something very different than academia. Perhaps something in the engineering sector or translating Japanese or stand-up comedy or who knows!

I’m really good at

Making people laugh! Wordplay. Winning stuffed animals from those claw machines. Getting the dancing started at weddings and bar mitzvahs. Memorizing song lyrics and singing them quite badly at karaoke. Wheel of Fortune (I DVR it and my roommates think I'm a savant at it)! The Wheel of Fortune slot machines. Teaching my friends how to play Blackjack and Craps the correct way! Finding weird internet videos. Minesweeper.

The first things people usually notice about me

Probably my hair? I've got that wavy-curly not quite tamable Jew-mop going on which my friends adore and has prompted several people to ask if I'm Jonah Hill's stunt double. It's also quite lush and soft I'm told by people who steal touches of it.

Also, if first met in a group situation, people notice that I am an entertainer, usually a bit loud and energetic and maybe trying to do something unexpected. But one-on-one, I start off somewhat shy until I get into the flow of things, then I quickly open up!

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books - I love humor and satire writing; recently went through all of Terry Pratchett's Discworld books. I read some sci-fi and space opera, for some reason I'm drawn to books dealing with xenocide or space detectivery. I'm a bit of a nerd and also read some comics!

Movies - Laughably bad ones! And again sci-fi and comedy are my big 2 favorite genres. The Fifth Element is perhaps my favorite movie ever, combining both! I also love formulaic movies that know they are, and therefore I unironically watch every Bring It On movie that has come direct to DVD.

Music - Not very well versed in recent music, and I listen to a lot of classic rock and 80's pop, but have recently gotten into mash-ups! I'll listen to anything that is catchy, and so when friends send me Korean and Japanese pop I get into those as well, even if I can't understand it well!

Food - Japanese Curry, Thai, Steak! Not a big fan of shellfish or Vietnamese food in general but most everything else is good with me.

The six things I could never do without

Wendy's - I have a lot of good memories at various Wendy's, and it's become quite a comfort food! They also make the best burgers and spicy chicken sandwiches, so I make sure to know where the closest one is no matter where I am!

Pictures of my (parent's) dogs - Although I'm 1600 miles away from them, whenever I'm feeling blue I just have to open my phone and look at the pics of the terriers I taught to watch YouTube and it cheers me up!

My car - I need to have that ability to jump into my car and go at the drop of a hat and not be dependent on friends/public transportation, whether I'm going to grab dinner or visit buddies cities away!

DVR - It has revolutionized my life and the role that TV plays in it.

A warm climate - I've never been in snow, and it kind of scares me! Also it's just been so long that I'm trying to see how much longer I can keep the streak going.

Good friends - Probably a little cliche, but I'm a social person by nature and it would take a lot of fun out of my interests and hobbies and experiences if I had no one to share them with.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Where and when I have to be next, the mysteries of the female brain, what possible reason the person in front of me has for driving so slow and not moving one lane over, my next brilliant YouTube sketch idea, and if my advisor's in lab how to measure the temperature of the world's smallest lightbulb I have made

On a typical Friday night I am

Trying to mobilize my friends to do something other than catch up on Thursday's TV. I succeed maybe 40% of the time, often to end up at a bar playing darts/pool/shuffleboard or karaoke. And some weeks are just so long that on Friday night I just want to recharge so I will be ready to rock and roll all Saturday and Sunday!

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

I'm still afraid to watch the first Care Bears movie after all these years. It scarred me as a kid!
