I am quiet, polite, and weird.

My Self-Summary

Hey! Im starting like this because thats how the sample sentence begins.

Hey! So Ive been stuck in the NoVA area for about a year now. I'm a simple man with simple tastes from the great Northeast. I have a job in my degree field. I am an Animator working as a Multimedia artist for a local Not-For-Profit. Yeah. Big nerd. Sorry. And its one of those fields that when you tell your parents about it they say, "That's nice honey, but wouldn't you rather be a journalist/doctor/lawyer/pharmacist?" But I'm happy with my decision.

Enough about work though...
Physically Im a big guy. Football player big...and not one of the running guys...but one of the blocking guys. I don't know, damnit, I'm not a sports fan. Or at least not traditional team sports. I LOVE the non-conventional and non-mainstream sports though. I've run Dogsled teams in New England, taught skiing, and enjoy snowboarding. I have been a cyclist since I was 13 and spend most of my time off from work and personal projects riding the local trails with my new mountain bike. But I'm not fitness nut. I can't stand the gym...too structured...too repetitive. But if you want to go camping or hiking I would be all for it. But I admit it. I carry some extra pounds that Im trying to drop by the fall with the possibility of serving a tour in the Air National Guard.
Of course, being a nerd I enjoy nerd things in moderation. I do play videogames (sorry ladies, im one of -those-). I also have been increasingly involved in digital painting, videography, and Animation projects outside of work. I read constantly..lots of Fantasy, but also lots of History since Im a history buff.
I love my car...and cars in general. I -will- drive down the highway Ooo'ing and Aaah'ing at just about every vehicle that catches my eye. Planes too... Was working on my pilot's license for a while there, but that is sort of on the backburner for now.

Ultimately, I want to move into Special Effects or the Film Industry. But my job is secure and interesting for now. I like cold climates...someplace where I can snowboard til June and bike until September at which point Id start snowboarding again. I love dogs and wish I still had one.

I don't watch a ton of TV. But I am known to be sucked in by Scrubs reruns, and the History and Discover channels. I love music...but not HipHop/Rap/R&B. I used to play the violin but I find myself being more interested in Metal...anything I can roll down the highway blasting while I scream it out. How else would I get through my morning commute in all this NoVA traffic?

I identify myself as a Christian...but the trouble with that these days is what Ghandi noticed. There are far too many Christians that don't act like the person they claim to follow. It makes me hesitant to involve myself with churches. Everything is so politicized. I do hold certain beliefs and I do have a "code" of ethics and morals that I adhere to in most things. Its how I was brought up and God or no God that is how I will live. I'll keep on questioning everything though.

So I've been down here a year, and being a loner of sorts Im a little slow to make friends. Its strange since I'm pretty social when Im involved with an interesting group of people, but most people my age just haven't really made it out of the college frat mindset it seems. I don't go out to drink just for the sake of drinking. I don't want to hear about how "hot" some celebrity or the girl you saw walking past the apartment was. I want to be engaged in a good conversation whether its about something serious or off-beat. Also some riding partners would be great. I spend 4-5 afternoons a week riding my bike these days.

So that's it..if you feel I've missed anything feel free to let me know. Im an artist...Im familiar with criticism.

What I’m doing with my life

I work as a Multimedia Artist currently, but I would very much prefer to move into film or some equally creative storytelling medium in the long term.

I’m really good at

I never feel that I excel at anything, but people say I am a good writer. And my artwork has been increasing in its quality. Im good at my job which is a wonderful thing...but Im not as good as I want to be.

The first things people usually notice about me

That guy is tall and has crazy hair. My hair obeys not the brush or the comb.

I think my female friends have figured out that they can talk to me about things and feel comfortable doing so. I get sucked into the weirdest conversations by you ladies. Maybe I should be flattered that you think that Im a good listener.

Oh yeah...did I mention Im a big guy? 6'4"...broad shoulders...some extra pounds...but strong and active.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Ok...lets do this all list style...

-Books-
Shakespeare Anything
Song of Ice and Fire series
Godslayer Chronicles
The Animators Handbook (or maybe thats more of a necessity that a favorite)
Golden Compass books (I may not agree with them, but they are captivating)
Narnia series
Lord of the Rings
Panther in the Sky
Neverwhere

-Movies-
5th Element
You've Got Mail (my eternal shame)
The Fountain
Pitch Black
Ironman
Saving Private Ryan
Band of Brother (its a miniseries so I guess Im cheating)
Wall-E

-Food-
Pff...as if I needed to be thinking about food right now.
I had a kickass spinach and mushroom lasagna for dinner.

The six things I could never do without

My family (bro, sister, mum, dad - im close to all of them)
My car (hate public transportation. My vehicle is my freedom)
The Outdoors (Hooray for the National park system!)
This orange slice candy in my ha... Oh god, no! I ate it!
My Zune (Keeps the tunes rolling wherever I go..and also my NPR programs)
My bikes

I spend a lot of time thinking about

My work and what steps to take next.

On a typical Friday night I am

Usually off biking somewhere. Or browsing Craigslist for something I need to furnish my apartment.

The most private thing I’m willing to admit here

Im a nerd. There. Its out there.
Also, I love "You've Got Mail".

You should message me if

You're like-minded, fun, and a little bit weird. I love an offbeat sense of humor and someone who is a little adventurous....but hopefully someone I can keep up with...or maybe not..maybe someone who will make me work just a bit to keep up with.
Looking for love. Looking for friendship. Looking for a heated debate about the value of art movements since the 1930s.
