My self-summary
I am the worst liar you've ever met. I have a great sense of wonder. I gravitate toward people that can recognize the beauty in simplicity. I'm grateful that the richness of my life has very little to do with tangibles ("What is essential is invisible to the eye"). The absurdities of life deserve a hearty guffaw...I've been told that my laughter is infectious.

I have a keen appreciation for language, written or spoken. Words captivate and woo me. I guess that you could call me well read, but sadly these days I get into bed and fall asleep with a book on my face only a few pages later.

My reverence for nature is the closest thing I have to religion. I am made whole by being outdoors : seeing a beautiful sunset or flower can make everything right for me. I find our physical world breathtaking.

I am a fairly active person. Moving my body maintains my sanity. I run and bike outdoors and am mostly a gym rat in the winter. Close friends are trying to convince me to start training for an endurance event.

My hair is silver, I don't have the wherewithal to dye it and maintain a routine schedule as such at the salon. Most people in my life tell me that the color suits me and complements my blue eyes.

At heart, I am a tomboy but I clean up quite nicely.

I am a thinker. I answered a question on this site in the affirmative about my capacity to daydream, but in hindsight I might say instead that I am easily engaged by the ramblings of my somewhat active mind. I like to pursue threads of thought and make deductions and associations. Unfortunately I sometimes have a hard time shutting my brain off.

I am a mother to four-year old twins that bring a lot of light and levity to my life. Watching my littles make their way in the world is undoubtedly my greatest joy.

I'm interested in having fun and meeting new people in the short-term, with a longer-term goal of stability.
What I’m doing with my life
Raising my children (they're with me 50% of the time).
Work in the biotech industry.
Exercising
Getting outside.
Cooking
Hanging out with my beloved friends and family.
Gardening.
I’m really good at
Cooking
I make a kick-ass roasted chicken. I love making soups, pasta and pizza. Would love to take Thai or Indian cooking classes. For me, the aroma of a slow-cooked onion in olive oil is sublime.

Dancing
Though I don't get nearly enough opportunity to do it (aside from with my kids). Someone recently asked me which song would most certainly get me out on the floor, but the truth is that I don't need much inspiration.

Conversation / listening / connecting with people.
I live for witty banter and conversation. Love to tell my stories and enjoy equally listening to tales from others. I can easily connect with people, folks trust me readily. I am someone with whom you may share your deepest secret even though we barely know each other.

Finding the humor.
The first things people usually notice about me
My Hair...my eyes...my smile...my laugh.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Favorite authors too many to mention : love fiction and literature. Some memoirs and biographies. Currently reading Julian Barnes "The Sense of an Ending". Recently reread Salinger's Nine Stories ("For Esme..." is my favorite). Just picked up a book of ee cummings poetry. I subscribe unapologetically to Vanity Fair...I find the articles in this rag to be well written whether they are about the celebrity of the moment or news of the world. I think a subscription to the New Yorker is in my near future. In recent years my appreciation has been renewed for "Where the Wild Things Are" and most everything by Shel Silverstein or Dr. Seuss.

Movies : A good story draws me in. I am entertained by anything from any genre that I feel is engaging and done well. Just saw Lincoln and Argo and thought both were amazing. Some old favorites : Juno, Fargo, When Harry met Sally, Princess Bride, Trading Places, the Usual Suspects. I am not usually one for scary movies but I think that the Silence of the Lambs is one of the most brilliant, suspenseful movies I've seen.

Food :
Love Sushi, Italian, Mexican, Thai, Indian - though in reality, good food for me is mostly about quality of preparation and ingredients regardless of region of origin.

TV : Watch documentaries and some reality TV (top chef, project runway). Previously been enthralled by the Sopranos, Mad Men, Six Feet Under, sex and the city, older Will and Grace. Big fan of the PBS documentary-style series : American Masters, American Experience and Independent Lens. Am going to start watching Breaking Bad and Downton Abbey.

Love all kinds of music :
Vivaldi, non-acidy Miles Davis, Coltraine, Art Pepper, Dave Brubeck, most Blue Note Jazz, Beastie Boys, Pharcyde, Tribe called Quest, Simon and Garfunkel, CSNY, thievery corp, zero seven, mostly anything from the '80's, Depeche Mode, INXS, REM, Liz Phair, the Beatles, Led zeppelin, Jane's Addiction, the Violent Femmes, Queen, Cake, the Police, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Cesaria Evora, modest mouse, the killers, Fiest, Lily Allen, Kate Nash, Regina Spektor, Vampire Weekend, the Strokes, Hall & Oates!

I am also an NPR junkie : love This American Life, Car Talk, Fresh Air and wait wait don't tell me.
The six things I could never do without
My people aren't things...but I couldn't imagine life without them.
Otherwise : Fruit, exercise, nature, music, coffee, books.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Everything!- see above.
The nature of people and the universe.
How to raise my children to be independent, intelligent, compassionate citizens.
How I can find time to learn to play the drums.
What I am going to cook/eat next.
What I am going to plant in the garden next.
What book I should read next.
The infinite possibility of the future.
Lessons gleaned from my past.
How incredibly fortunate I am.
Beauty. Love. Happiness. Men. Truth.
On a typical Friday night I am
Hanging out with my kids or with friends....or on a date.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
Ask me when we meet...I'm pretty much an open book.
I’m looking for
  • Guys who like girls
  • Ages 35–45
  • Near me
  • Who are single
  • For new friends, long-term dating, short-term dating
You should message me if
You're interested in spending time with me outdoors. You want to take in all that the city has to offer and show off your favorite haunts. You are more likely to excitedly discuss your passions/interests than dwell on the things you dislike. Despite all the slings and arrows you've endured over the course of your life, you are somewhat optimistic. You are honest and don't take yourself too seriously. You know how to make yourself happy.
