I like misfits, outcasts, weirdos, damaged and disordered people. This is sort of a disconnect because I am often accused of being "cool" or "suave" etc - but only by people who don't really know me. I prefer the unusual, unique, eclectic types in the world. If you have a scar on your cheek or grew up in a cult I will like you. I find individuals much more interesting than the teeming masses.

In general I have semi-intellectual good taste and I am pretty well read. I am divorced and my two kids are with me four nights out of the week - I am romantic, open, sincere, empathetic, compassionate, loving and loyal; also independent, non-judgemental, liberal (voted Obama) politically astute and chronically self-aware. I really don't expect you to be into all the same silly and eclectic stuff I am into - just be relaxed and open-minded. I've taken several Myers-Briggs and they always say that I am an ENFP. When I am not at my regular day job as an Executive Recruiter, I am composing and playing music, and writing lyrics - Note: I will be posting new songs and lyrics in my journal as I write them and I always appreciate feedback and input from other writers/ artists/ musicans, etc.  I enjoy writing, reading, the beach, hiking, camping, dive bars, fishing, going to clubs, museums, thrift shops, flea markets, garage sales and general hunting for vintage 60's and 70's items.  I am here to meet people and have fun.  I woule never say "then whatever happens happens" because I am not one to just wait and see what develops - I will push the envelope and aim for the outcome I want.   But I am always open to a nice surprise.  If I am not interested I will tell you politely.  I am not seeking to waste anyone's precious time on this Earth - especially mine.

The first thing people notice is I am tall with dark hair and light eyes - then they realize I am very friendly and something of a chatterbox - they will usually then ask if I am from New York or new Jersey (actually it is Philly) then they rather quickly deduce I am a self-effacing goofball - then they will either buy me a drink, jump my bones and ravage me, punch me in the nose or run screaming in the opposite direction (or a combination of the above); either way I usually consider it a successful start to a long and spectacularly sordid relationship.

BOOKS: Recently read The Kite Runner and found it emotionally devastating - there were some parallels with my life that just wrenched me to the core; I couldn't get through After Dark by Murakami - his screenplay style of writing left me cold (maybe I just got sick of reading screenplays); I like most of Tom Robbins' books, love Henry Miller's Quiet Days in Clichy and most everything he's written; recently read Fast Food Nation (scary) and the Autobiography of filmmaker Luis Bunuel; other faves include Confederacy of Dunces, the Ginger Man, Foucalt's Pendulum, Italo Calvino's If on a Winter's Night a Traveler, The Magus by John Fowles, The Alchemist, Ham on Rye and Hollywood by Bukowski, William S. Burroughs (I once had a band called Nova Express), Hunter S. Thompson, William Blake, Phillip K. Dick, Hermann Hesse had a big impact on me especially Siddhartha - I tend to read alot of biographies, history, art and music stuff, architecture - I was an English Major in College so I will always be a reader. I also like unusual horror, sci-fi, philosphy, religion, anthropology and parapsychology - is there anything I wouldn't read - just the latest Harry Potter* or Dan Stone (blleechhh) *UPDATE: I recently read the first Harry Potter book to my kids and guess what - it wasn't so awful after all - so I stand chastised. MOVIES: I am a huge movie buff - worked in the biz for 10 years and I got to know some of the best screenriters in Hollywood so I have good taste and love both the art and the craft of moviemaking. Kubrick, Hitchcock, and Bunuel all fave directors - contemporary filmmakers I dig include the Todds (Solandtz, Haynes and Field), Coen Brothers, Pedro Almodovar, P.T. Anderson, Wes Anderson, . Quentin Tarentino, Tim Burton, David Lynch, Miyazaki, Jodorowsky, David Cronenberg, Peter Jackson, Jim Jarmusch, Darren Aronofsky, Terry Gilliam, Spike Jonze, Christopher Nolan, Steven Soderbergh, Robert Rodriguez, Lars von Trier, Christopher Guest, and Richard Linklater (I'd better stop there).MUSIC: I have broad taste - from Hardcore punk to BeBop Jazz to Classical Arias. I am more a music person than anything else - it is the key to me. Some faves include: The Faint (just saw them live), The Killers, Interpol, Bloc Party, Death Cab for Cutie, The Cure, Bauhaus, Iggy Pop, The Gun CLub, Tom Waits, Richard Thompson, Black Flag, The Dead Boys, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Jim Hendrix, Charlie Parker, Ornette Coleman, Terje Rypdal, Jon Hassel, Brian Eno, Robert Fripp, Bill Nelson, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Led Zep, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Henry Rolllins, The Killers, Arcade Fire, White Stripes (Jack White is my hero), Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins, Billy Holiday, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Siouxie and the Banshees, Nirvana, Tool, RATM, NIN, Breaking Benjamin, Switchfoot, Rilo Kiley, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and just about anything they play on KCRW here in LA.
