My self-summary
Dear reader, welcome on my profile!

There won't really be a self-summary since I feel the other texts cover up most of my personality. This profile is currently too damn long but I don't feel like completely rewriting it.

I found my current mate, M_qrius on okcupid, we have been together for more than a year now and it's going quite well, I'm happy. So, it seemed to work for me - maybe it works for you as well? Keep looking :)
What I’m doing with my life
I study in Essen to become a highschool teacher, my subjects being biology, arts and chemistry (in that order). Maybe I'll decide to stay at university post-graduate and do biology research - I'd like to, but the odds are long and you have to be very, very good (at least that's what I've heard).
Well, I'm sure I'll get some work, one way or another. :)

I live in a flat (or let's say "flatlet") with my twin
brother.

My life at present is mainly affected by
a) ... learning how the universe works.
b) ... my striving towards rationality, intelligence, perfection
and other ideals. I try to achieve the best for me and my
surrounding, going to lengths to prevent suffering. However, this is a permanent struggle between my "egoist" and "altruist" part.

Currently I quite enjoy my life. Ah, if only I'd be paid for studying... :P
I’m really good at
I'll make a pro and con section here. I hate salespeople that will only tell you about advantages and lie/keep silent about the downside (= all salespeople). The information presented here will still be biased, but I was certainly trying to be objective.

PRO: I am good at...
- school-subject-wise: everything except music and sports
- rationality and thinking. Although I'm pretty sure my IQ is less than 130 points - I'm no genius. Working on my rationality fu; this is very important to me!
- being honest, to others and myself
- ordering/sorting things (my thoughts, earthly belongings, other people's thoughts, ...) -- note that I'm not an especially tidy person; my room's average state is "relatively messy". I really enjoy a tidy place, though.
- being empathic ((too) many mirror-neurons, I guess)
- drawing and other arts stuff (some of my newest project can be seen in the photo section)
- being cute, according to Mindsss and M_qrius
- planning and making elaborate presents (this is art :))

IN BETWEEN:
- My emotions are (relatively) intense and short-lasting. This means on the pro side I'm easily fascinated, jaunty and never vengeful, on the con side my enthusiasm may not last and sometimes I am erratic (note: I try to balance that out, showing positive emotions and hiding the negative ones. So you probably won't notice my moody side at all. In a relationship this is, however, not entirely possible)

CON: I'm bad at...
- being spontaneous
- stopping to argue when the argument is settled. Often I pass the point where I could just say "Yeah, you're right and what I was going to say won't change anything" because there are still some arguments to be mentioned. I'm working on this :)
- dealing with (harsh) criticism. I'm rather thin-skinned (no point in ceasing to criticize, though)
- acting. Couldn't be much worse, I suppose. (That does explain the honesty part :P)
- spatial awareness
- everything concerning music, e.g. singing, doing funny things with my voice, memorizing tunes, sorting stuff into genres, ...
- memorizing names and small-talk-information
- dealing with stress
- being patient

I believe that working on your personality is possible. A couple of years ago I was really shy and introvert, but I have deliberately changed that over the course of 1-2 years. Apparently it worked, and made me much happier! :)
The first things people usually notice about me
My red hair, obviously.
I’m tall for a girl and not all that bad-looking (aren’t we trying to be modest, huh?^^)
I'm nice to nearly everybody.

Apart from that I can only guess. So I asked some friends:
- I speak in a way that is deliberate and well-considered.
- I listen carefully without shifting my attention to other things
- The walking me tends to move fast and determinedly
(leading to complaints on how I didn't wave back at friends passing my way)
- Odds are good I’d wear something metal-y or simple black if we’d meet. There are some items that are really distinctive, like a pair of almost knee-high combat boots with buckles and a long black cloak (a bit like the Matrix thing, but made of felt and much more feminine). I don’t wear them all the time, though,
and about half of my clothes aren’t black
- I’m “gazelle-like”, meaning “tall and lithe” according to a fellow student (oh, well o.O I always thought of myself as being too tall to be lithe and/or cute - you can check it yourself in the photo section if you like)
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
First of all, I really love reading.
Back then (when I still had time :P) I used to read a whole lot, mostly fantasy and whatever I got into my hands. Now the focus is mostly on my study books, a few things that interest me besides that and stuff I find on the internet, also everything I manage to lay my hands on in a calm second. More below...

Books:
I won’t even start to list all the books I like, just a rundown. As for the fantasy section, of course there are Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter*, also quite a few trilogies.
As for more sciency stuff there's Richard Dawkins, a brilliant writer and evolutionary scientist. Since reading his book “The God Delusion” I consider myself an atheist. I saw him speaking in Mülheim last year and nearly got to sit beside him!
He also has this superawesome children's book about science!

* my brothers and I would have a “Harry Potter day” each time a new one came out. Someone bought three books and then we’d only take reading breaks reluctantly to quickly eat something and then return to lecture. Usually, we wouldn’t finish until late night or the next morning. :)

Internet:
Whatever time remains besides studying, social life and others goes into this.
It's a marvelous place to learn things, to blind out the world around me and for the lulz, but also to kill hours and hours of my precious time. :D
This is some of my daily internet checking routine:
- SMBC (it's a webcomic - give it a try!)
- xkcd (am I geeky yet?? :P) and Abstruse Goose (for everyone who likes xkcd, but even better)
- HPMOR (Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality; it's a fanfiction and you should really, really, really give it a try (I barely manage not to say please))

I don’t own a TV and though I enjoy watching movies I haven’t seen many (something having to do with priorities). Also, my “not seen” list contains Star Wars...

Music:
Chance has brought me to the coasts of metal-ism, mostly to symphonic metal (or rather, “music stuff with a female lead singer and not too much growling”). I’m not sure about the genres and before some metalhead kills me for any iniquity I do to the Holy Realm of Metal, I’ll go with my favourite bands: Within Temptation, Epica, My Dying Bride, Volbeat, Deathstars, Disturbed, Evanescence, Subway to Sally, Sabaton, Eluveitie, Ensiferum, Nightwish, Flyleaf, Amorphis
To sum it up; I love dramatic music (sometimes even melodramatic), emotional music of all kinds as long as it mirrors the emotion purely and intensely (especially melancholy) and well, a whole lot of other stuff. I’d probably rather go with catchy than sophisticated.

Food:
I’m not picky with food – or, should say, was. Before I went from “vegetarian” to “vegan”. Oh well… At least it did help my cooking since I do no longer eat canteen food [update: my "Mensa" now offers vegan food - WHEEE!] and my brother rarely cooks. It’s been more than two years now and I am quite happy with it. :)
I have ethical reasons – whoever wants to know more has to ask.
The six things I could never do without
Put aside the general conditions needed to keep a frail human body alive (oxygen available, right temperature, water, food in right amount and combination, ...) I believe there isn’t anything I really couldn’t do without. But there are a few things whose absence would make me sad:
- (daily) social interaction with people I know well and feel comfortable with
- the well-cushioned life in a first-world country, including human rights like the freedom of speech
- free time
- health (absence of major pain)
- the ability to enjoy life and to experience the world around me in a sensuously pleasant way
- paper and pen (not "pen and paper")
- the internet - it offers an unbelievable amount of information and several possibilities to communicate with people far away, and a lot of that for free

I’ll not include points concerning my ability to think because I’d probably not miss them given the case some accident took them from me. My brain is what I am and changing it would mean to change me.
I’m looking for
  • Everybody
  • Ages 18–99
  • Located anywhere
  • For new friends
You should message me if
You can always message me if you have a question or something is wrong with grammar/spelling. Please don't expect a conversation to start. I don't want to be selective, I just don't have the time. I read all messages I get, though I don't answer them all - okcupid is not the most important thing in my life any more.

Apart from that I enjoy talking to strangers for a bit. I don't feel obliged to keep conversation up; sometimes it's just nice to exchange a few sentences and part again.
A note of warning: If I get messages like "Hiiiiiiiii i like ur pics wats up gurl" sometimes I'm tempted to reply. You message me at your own risk then. I can get pretty sarcastic and I can't guarantee that I won't be mocking you. (The people who send that kind of messages, that is. If you have at least a bit of common sense, we can just have a conversation like grown-ups or something :P)

I am monogamous - please be so kind not to message me for 'relationship-y' reasons. The relationship I am in is quite nice as it is ;-)
