My self-summary Propose an edit
***UPDATE 11/14/08 As of this week, I am currently seeing someone.
I'm VERY excited about the possibilities with him and hope that it
will be something long-term. However, we do have a fairly open
relationship, so I'm not going to delete my profile. If you are
still interested, feel free to e-mail, but please understand that
my free time is now somewhat limited.****
I'm an OU
Sooner, born and bred (when I die, I'll be Sooner dead)! I
enjoy movies,
music, wine, politics, reading and any OU sports.
I'm an agnostic
with Buddhist
philosophical leanings. I enjoy discussing religion and other philosophical topics,
but I do NOT like it when people try to impose their beliefs on
me.
I like most genres of movies, but gory horror is not really my
thing. I like all sorts of music from opera
to rap and everything in between. I sing fairly well and hope to continue
bettering my vocal talent. I also play flute and a little piano. I prefer red wine, especially Pinot Noirs and Cabernet
Sauvignons. I lean to the Left on the political spectrum and am a
registered Democrat. I mostly read fiction, all kinds.
Ich kann Deutsch
ein bischen, aber mein Wortschatz ist sehr schlecht. If I had more
time, I would love to learn more languages.
Is anyone starting to see a pattern? Basically, I have very broad
interests and try to find value in all sorts of genres. I'm
intellectually curious and love to learn about new things.
I guess this is the section where I say, I'm divorced (no kids in
case you're wondering). No need to say "I'm sorry" or
"Congratulations." Neither is really applicable to my situation. I
wouldn't be the person I am without my past experiences, of which
both my marriage and my divorce are a part. If you want to know
about it, just ask. I have no issues talking about it.
A few thoughts on attraction: Attraction is a funny thing. It’s a
calculation of more than just appearance, although appearance is
one factor of attraction. I try not to judge based solely on
appearance, but if I don’t feel an initial spark, let’s just say
it’s not a very good start. I know I’m not exactly Barbie, and I’m
not looking for Ken, but I need to feel a basic physical
attraction. That being said, physical attraction alone is not
enough. I want to find someone who stimulates my intellect and
brings out the best version of me. I believe the brain is the
largest erogenous zone. Stimulate my intellect, and you're already
halfway there.
Overall, I’m working to better myself, and I want to find someone
who helps me along that path, without losing his (or her) own sense
of self. I’m not looking for someone to “complete me” or “make my
dreams come true” or any of that other ridiculous movie romance
stuff. That’s not to say that romance doesn’t have its place. In
some ways, I’m a hopeless romantic, but I try not to get hung up on
fairytale ideals or assign anyone an unrealistic role. No one else
can complete me... I should be complete in and of myself.
Here is a list of my immediate disqualifiers (if any of these
apply, you should probably just move on):
- Liars and Cheaters
- Drama (if you can't handle your own issues, don't push them off
on me!)
- Serial killers
- Hygiene-impaired
- RNC Proselytizers
What I'm doing with my life Propose an edit
My main object in life is to walk the path that leads to happiness
for me. I believe that "Happiness is not something ready made. It
comes from your own actions." (The Dalai Lama) So I'm trying to take
very deliberate actions to lead to happiness. And I don't believe
any person or thing can make you happy. It has to come from
within.
As far as my career, I am an attorney, working mainly in estate
planning, probate, trust administration and tax. I enjoy my work
and hope to continue in this career path.
However, I hope that what I'm doing with my life goes beyond what I
do to keep a roof over my head, clothes on my back and food on my
table.
I enjoy singing in the choir at the community college, spending
time with my friends and family, playing with my dog and generally loving life.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
Changing my hair! As you can see from my pictures, I've gone
through having long, blonde hair; long, red hair; short, red hair;
and currently, short, "brond" (between brown and blonde) hair. I
just enjoy playing with it and having fun.
Honestly, I'm very good at just about anything I set my mind to.
I'm not incredibly athletic, but I think that is more from lack of
practice than true inability.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me Propose an edit
Well, a lot of times, people first hear my voice. I have a "stage voice" that carries
quite well, and I'm a terrible whisperer.
Physically, I most often get comments on my eyes and my smile.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
For most of these categories, it's just too hard to list specifics.
But I'll try!
Books - it's easier to list Authors (in no particular order) -
Jean M.
Auel, J.K. Rowling, J.R.R. Tolkien,
C.S.
Lewis, Neil
Gaiman, Douglas Adams, Noam Chomsky, George Orwell, H.P. Lovecraft,
H.G. Wells,
Brian
Aldiss and the obvious classics like Shakespeare, Dickens,
Twain, etc. One of my very favorite books is The Celestine Prophecy.
Yeah, sure, some of it's a bit hokey, but I think some of the core
ideas about relationships, human interactions and actively engaging
in personal growth are very valuable.
Movies - I like almost anything but blood-for-the-sake-of-blood
horror. I love all of Kevin Smith's work, but my favorite
is Chasing
Amy. M. Night Shyamalan's work
is also good. I enjoy movies that make me think and movies that
aren't always popular, like Eternal
Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Donnie Darko, I Heart Huckabees,
The
Royal Tennenbaums, The Life
Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Little Miss Sunshine,
The Tao of
Steve, etc. I like movies based on my favorite books like
Harry Potter,
Hitchhiker's
Guide to the Galaxy, Lord of the Rings, Contact etc. That doesn't
mean I don't like more mainstream movies too. Comedies are always a
good pick, like Judd Apatow's work, The Big Lebowski,
Saved!, etc. I
also enjoy musicals. Reefer Madness: The
Musical is one of the most brilliant musical, comedy satires of
all time!
TV - House,
Lost, Jericho, South Park, Weeds, Bullshit, CSI, Law & Order; cancelled
or over - The
West Wing, Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, Carnival, My So-Called Life, Freaks and Geeks,
Undeclared,
Seinfeld.
Music - everything! Some of my favorites include (again, no
particular order) The Flaming Lips, Dashboard
Confessional, The Decemberists, Death Cab for
Cutie, Tracy
Chapman, Indigo Girls, Norah Jones, Alison Krauss, Nickel Creek,
Nine Inch
Nails, Phish,
The
Barenaked Ladies, Colbie Caillat, Aranda, The Beatles ... I could go on and on
and on. I also LOVE musicals. My top five favorites are
probably Rent,
Avenue Q,
Reefer Madness: The
Musical, Les Miserables and Phantom of the
Opera.
Food - I've been told I like "weird" food. I like just about every
ethnic food there is - Indian, Thai, Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese, Mexican, Mediterranean, French... again, the list goes on.
One of my very favorite things is Sushi.
The six things I could never do without Propose an edit
(In no particular order)
1. Personal hygiene products
2. The support of those I love (friends and family)
3. Pen and paper
4. Good conversation
5. The Internet (for through it, I have access to an almost
infinite store of books and ideas)
6. AA batteries
I spend a lot of time thinking about Propose an edit
The same thing I think about every night, Pinky, how to take over
the world!
Well, not counting the thinking I do about my work, I probably
think most about how to change the world.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens
can change the world; indeed it's the only thing that ever has."
(Margaret Mead)
On a typical Friday night I am Propose an edit
Define typical... Sometimes I'm out on the town with the girls.
Sometimes I'm home watching a movie or TV. Sometimes I'm at a
friend's house just hanging out. If I'm lucky, I might have a date.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here Propose an edit
I take a somewhat guilty pleasure in pop music. Not all the time,
but sometimes I'm taken with a fit of insanity and indulge in what
I consider to be the most banal of musical endeavors.
On a more personal note, I'll admit that one of my very favorite
things is to be kissed on the forehead.
Now, this doesn't mean that you should kiss me on the forehead upon
first meeting me. But there's something extremely pleasant about
someone with whom I am intimate kissing my forehead; it just makes
me feel warm and content.
You should message me if Propose an edit
You're intrigued by my brilliant musings; You revel in absurdities;
You seek respite from the mundane and commonplace; You can maintain
a conversation beyond the first IM; You just think I sound like a
cool person, and you'd like to get to know me better. :-D
Also, I don't give out my name online. It's just a safety thing.
Nothing personal. If you don't mind that, message away! But if you
are going to message me, please don't call me "baby" or "beautiful"
or "sweetheart" or other pet names; I HATE that shit!
You took my
compatibility test and scored relatively well - although a high
score is not a prerequisite, it certainly bodes well!
