I'm a tenured professor at a private university where I teach a variety of biological subjects. Although I live in Ohio now, I grew up in several other states in the midwest, south and northeast. I also lived in Japan and the Philippines for a few years when I was a kid.

I have a mild-mannered personality and am generally considered to be a nice guy although a bit on the shy side at first. I've been told that I have a witty sense of humor.

Some of the things I enjoy include nature, dining, conversation, museums, renaissance festivals, movies, cycling and a little gardening. I sometimes find games entertaining as a leisure activity.

I am open to new experiences and am flexible concerning activites. I think it would be fun to broaden my horizons by trying novel entertainment experiences with someone new. However, I am not a sports fan. I prefer to engage in sports as a participant rather than a spectator.

I play several musical instruments, but mostly guitar. I make multitrack recordings with friends.

I have some expertise in auto mechanics, which I practice on my 1977 Triumph Spitfire roadster.

Given enough motivation, I can fix most things, including electronics, which was once a hobby of mine. I build my own computers.

I'm not a bad cook and bake my own bread.

I have red hair, blue eyes and a positive attitude.

Although I like a wide range of entertainment (excluding horror), I especially appreciate science fiction like "Firefly" and romantic fantasies such as "Lord of the Rings." In addition to sci-fi movies, I typically watch period pieces like Downton Abbey, foreign films, mysteries and adventures. I also like the political humor of Stewart and Colbert.

Much of my reading is work-related but when I have time to enjoy a book I like science fiction and fantasy the best. Some of my favorite authors are Margaret Weis, Elizabeth Moon and Lois McMaster Bujold as well as classic masters such as Asimov and Heinlein.

I also find time for serious reading, which has recently included "In the Garden of Beasts" (Erik Larson) and "You are not a Gadget" (Jaron Lanier).

My radio is usually tuned to NPR. Some of the musical genres I favor include classic rock, blues, celtic, and classical.

I savor most cuisine and welcome variety.

...you think we might enjoy each other's company, although I prefer to find a woman who is close to normal in weight. Thus far, I have avoided "rating" women and have not been entering grades into OKC's database. I understand the utility of this but it just seems a little strange and insensitive to me. Everyone has worth beyond what the numbers might say. Without ratings, I can't participate in quick matches and if you are an A-List member, you cannot peek at what I might think about you.
