My Notes edit

My self-summary

I'm just a Jim looking for my Pam.

I moved down to Maryland from Buffalo, NY in December of 2007. Since then I've made a couple good friends, seen a few sights, and traveled off the beaten path once or twice. My work schedule has been crazy (this is changing very soon) so meeting people has been difficult. The bar-scene is way too old, I don't work at an office with people so there's no "friends of friends" situation, and my job has me traveling 3-4 nights a week with little notice, so scheduling is hard. (Again, this is changing very soon.) So here I am! On the interwebs looking for somebody I might like and who can stand being around me too!

As for who I am: I'm a classical nice guy. (If you're a badboy lover, maybe the next profile will be better suited for you. Come on back when you realize that badboys will always make you cry.) I'm a romantic. I'm outgoing and can/will talk to anybody. I'm a little bit dorky insofar as I can get into geek culture, but I haven't used dice with more than 6 sides since junior high. I really enjoy running and going to the gym (well...I enjoy how they make me feel after I'm done) and am doing my best to return to what I call "Navy shape" after a year and a half of unemployment wreaked havoc on my physique. I like hiking, running 5k's, traveling to exotic places, going out with friends, finding unique things to do in the area (mainstream is boring), and just laying about watching TV. Over the next year I'd like to learn to ski, rockclimb, go bungee jumping, and do a whitewater rafting trip.

Random Thoughts That Give Insight To My Soul:

- I love barbecue but hate barbecue chips.
- Chai tea tastes like fall to me and I only drink it from my birthday in October to December 31st.
- I love silver and detest gold.
- Give me an Irish pub with a good band along with a couple of beers, and I'll dance all night. I won't dance well, by any means, but I'll dance.
- I like to twirl long hair when I'm sleepy. (I've done it since I was a baby.)
- I like organization and efficiency, but hate cleaning and tidying.
- I think grammar, ellipses, and parentheses are sexy.
- I'm not too much of a sports buff, but I'm getting into Ravens football. (Go Flacco!)
- If I play a video game, I'll get addicted like it's crack.
- I want to buy a house just so I can have friends over for parties.
- I don't mind being the center of attention (on occasion).
- While walking around my house, I'll occasionally throw imaginary fireballs at things and make a "fwoosh" noise (a la Mortal Kombat).
- I still think Cheetara from the Thundercats is hot.
- I need to go to the gym 3 times a week and run 4 times a week or I feel terribly guilty.
- I am simple; rough and tumble...nothing fancy if I can help it.
- I'm smart without having any right to be.
- I have been known to make friends by giving Pixie Stix to strangers.
- In 10 years I'm going to be hunted down by a Korean man that I taught English to when he was a child.

What I'm doing with my life

UPDATE: I quit my job!! Yup, that's right...unemployed is the new sexy! But it's okay! I've had another job lined up the whole time. I will soon be a flow cytometry equipment operator at a huge biomedical research facility in Bethesda, operating the stuff I used to fix. I'll have a set schedule, not be traveling all the time (thank holy God), and it even comes with a pretty significant raise. Things are good at Camp Chris! :)

Previously, I was a nuclear reactor operator on a submarine, an Economics student in Vancouver (UBC class of '05), an English teacher in Korea, and Logistics Supervisor of an OfficeMax in Lakewood, NY. (I have been asked if all this is true...yes, it is.)

I'm also getting into 5K's. I ran one a couple weeks ago and did really well. Turns out I move pretty fast for a big guy. Who knew?

I'm really good at

Meeting new people and becoming quick friends with them. I like talking to people and have no qualms about walking up to strangers to start a conversation.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

I don't have that initial awkward phase when I meet people. I'm friendly with everybody and will behave as though we've known each other for 5 years if we just met 5 minutes ago. I'm very trusting and easy-going, so unless somebody goes completely out of their way to screw me over, I'm loyal as a dog.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Calvin & Hobbes (the philosophers and the comic strip), Ayn Rand's stuff, Robert Jordan, Robert Aspirin, Harry Potter (of course), William Gibson, Shel Silverstein, among others.

Movies: Comedy and action flicks (cult classics if I can get 'em), with some drama if it's well done. The Incredibles (my favorite movie ever...it has no flaw!), 40 Year Old Virgin, Tommy Boy, Boondock Saints, Down Periscope, The Princess Bride, Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail, How's Your News?, Army of Darkness, Big Fish, Big Trouble in Little China, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Anchorman, Old School, Office Space, the Indiana Joneses's, Star Warses's, etc.

Music: Pretty eclectic. I like going to festivals and bars to listen to live bands with upbeat songs. Irish pub bands are great! (The Town Pants and Kilarney come to mind.) I tend not to listen to Top 40 until after it stops getting played on the radio every 30 minutes, so I'm always behind on popular music. Some of the bigger bands I like are Dave Matthews, Flogging Molly, Nine Inch Nails, Green Day, Fountains of Wayne, The Beatles, Dropkick Murphy's, Prodigy, Great Big Sea, Moxy Fruvous, Barenaked Ladies, The Tea Party among others. And then there are the strange, "who the hell are they" bands, like Atom and His Package, Old 97's, Big Leg Emma, God Lives Underwater, Primitive Radio Gods, Entrain, and Andrew WK.

I can basically get into anything that doesn't sound like a dirge, twangy country, or hard rap.

Food: Stuff that's easy to cook. If I'm cooking for somebody I can get a little fancy. I really like cooking with somebody. (It's romantic, and if it tastes terrible...not entirely my fault!) Pizza, steak, bbq, chicken wings, garlic mashed, and most desserts.

How did we forget about TV?: The Office, Family Guy, Chuck, The Big Bang Theory, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Trailer Park Boys, Psych, My Name Is Earl, Scrubs, Arrested Development, and similar shows.

The six things I could never do without

1) Fun stuff to do on the weekends
2) Hot showers with good water pressure
3) My gym membership (it's a love/hate relationship)
4) Various electronic gadgets and gizmos
5) Jim and Pam
6) Lists enumerating things I like

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Traveling to new places, am I going to like my new job, why I'm so behind on my paperwork, whether I'm too tired to go for a run, what I'm going to do this weekend, if anybody reads my journals, when can I get out of the country next?

On a typical Friday night I am

Either out doing something fun, curled up at home with a movie on and the internet devil-box turning my brain to moosh, or prepping for whatever Saturday's plans are. Thus far my future Saturday plans look like: monster truck jam, Polar Bear Plunge (yup, I'm doing it!), a chilly 5K, and Shamrockfest. After that, it's up for grabs.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

My last name sucks. It looks like a swear word and sounds like a feminine hygiene product.

PS If you're "The One", I promise you don't have to take it or even hyphenate it. I wouldn't do that to you.

You should message me if

You have a passport and like to use it, like Irish pubs, enjoy laying on a couch and watching TV, like to hike and/or run, are self-confident, outgoing, not too serious, enjoy sarcastic/dry humor, and can give as good as you get.

That being said, I'm looking for all the mushy, fluffy, smooshy stuff. I don't play games, I've outgrown the bar-dating scene, and I'm looking for someone I can be comfortable with doing all the things mentioned in my profile. If you think you're her, please let me know.

DISCLAIMER: I'm an independent guy looking for an independent girl. So, please, no kids, heinous ex baggage (like you're still crying about him), still-living-at-homes, or gold diggers. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I know myself well enough to know what I'm after. Ideally, I'd like a few more years of fun, romance, and travel before settling down and getting into the great adventure of starting a family.

Personality Awards - WTF? K, here's the ones that are wrong. I am definitely MORE romantic, MORE kinky (well, not super kinky...no thanks on the whips and chains. Maybe I am less kinky? Define "kinky"), MORE socially free, and how do I get that "MORE desiring of sex" one? The other ones are ok.
