My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Long time Oxford resident and physicist, now relocated half way round the world to Osaka to play with *even bigger* lasers. Now splitting my time between finishing the thesis I was meant to do before I left, new work, learning Japanese and even some exploring :-)
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
I probe (fairly specific) mysteries of the universe using nothing but Python and massively expensive laser facilities...
When not sitting in darkened rooms playing with lasers or computers, I go running, salsa dancing (Cuban, if anyone known anywhere in Osaka to do that...) and often seem to find my way into bars/pubs.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
landing on my feet, in a metaphorical, rather than literal sense. Please don't push me out of any high windows. I like cats but, alas, am not one.
The first things people usually notice about me
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
Apparently, my floppy hair.
I now very rarely get told that I look like Harry Potter, which I'm liking

Too many things... here's a few:
Dune, Captain Corelli's Mandolin, The Ethical Slut
Despicable Me (1 & 2), Airplane!, Serenity
Firefly, Archer, Dexter
Cheesy radio stations, or occasionally swing/salsa for dancing
Foodwise, I've been pretty lazy about sticking with noodles with some sushi so probably ought to branch out somewhat
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
I don't think I can stretch it to a list of six things, but a bottle of scotch, a good book (or a few) to read and a Netflix subscription would probably keep me going for quite a while.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
...why things are the way they are. This ranges over etymology, history, physics; I tend to end up reading all about a subject and anything related to it on wikipedia for quite a while - not great for work, but my pub quiz skills are pretty finely honed. people on here can choose an answer but then say it's unacceptable in other people!

you live in Osaka, can put up with me attempting to talk in broken Japanese, and/or can recommend places to go while I'm here!
