My self-summary
Caveat: More likely than not, I won't make first contact here on OKC. I know you ladies are inundated with lots of (sometimes rude and often awful) messages. That's not how I play. That being said, and given that my message to you is likely one of many that you receive on any given day, it's unrewarding to pour out a lengthy introductory letter only to never hear back. Rejection is one thing; I can handle that. Denial of my existence (in a non-existential way) is a wholly different ballgame. And Homey don't play that.

This is an online dating profile and, as such, is open to interpretation.

I am well known for my affinity for bacon, though many think I'm way more into it than I really am. The bacon potluck was a rousing success, and I'm getting better at making Pig Candy.

I make the best damned gazpacho you've never had. I wish more people liked gazpacho.

I like music festivals and will travel far to go to them. Bonnaroo, NOLA Jazzfest, for example.

"Oh, I Wish I Was in New Orleans." - T. Waits (and yours truly)

I'm usually acting somewhere between my age and my shoe size.

I think body art is sexy, including scarification and branding. They're not for me personally, but I have respect for the art form.

I don't like hops (as in craft beer), but I like watching people dance the Lindy. Lately I've been enjoying the dazzling array of Smirnoff Ice flavors (Cherry Lime in particular). Not much of a drinker though...mostly socially.

I usually don't care for wine, unless it's of the dessert variety (think ruby port, Sauternes, ice wine, Manischewitz). I also like bum wines, though I seldom drink them. I will, however, drink wine with a meal if it is apropos.

I hate winter, but I love downhill skiing.

I wish I had a reliable tennis partner.

My favorite dining is at Mission Cantina, Chez Albert, and BT's Smokehouse in Sturbridge. If you're a fan of killer BBQ, go to BT's. You will not be disappointed.

I used to dye my hair blue. Nothing hides grey like blue.

I've worked consistently for the same company since '98.

I am in love with the South. The weather, Blue Ridge Parkway, music, culture, booze & moonshining, the Southern drawl. This doesn't mean I'm Red; I'm Blue, through and through.

I am fluent in sarcasm.

Kid-friendly. Though I've never really thought of myself as particularly paternal, I've been told I'm great with kids. I guess it's because I see them as little adults, only still full of energy and wonder.

Read my Questions section. Lots of tidbits there to help fill in any blanks.

Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
I'm currently reading Tibetan Peach Pie by Tom Robbins, and I'm "reading" the complete audio-book series of Game of Thrones. I've read every Tom Robbins book, including "B" is for Beer. I think it may be time to revisit Even Cowgirls Get the Blues. Last winter I re-read Stephen King's novel, It. It was almost as scary the second time as it was when I read it 20-something years ago.

Cinema: Guy Ritchie's first 4 films, QTarantino , Scorcese, Russ Meyer, Brian De Palma, Coen brothers, Terry Gilliam, Sam Raimi, FF Coppola, Wes Anderson

I barely watch TV even though I have Cable. Better to have it and not need it, right? True Detective and Game of Thrones are recent favorites.

Tunes: Radiohead, Death Cab for Cutie, Wilco, Adele, and Nickelback can all go to Hell. That being said, here's a small list of the music that makes me tick, and in no particular order (other than alphabetical):

Vegans live 15 years longer because they aren't invited anywhere fun or dangerous. Instead, they stay at home crying and drinking, being careful not to cry into the drink because tears are a product of an animal's suffering.
