However, since it's compulsory, I might as well fill in something.
I'm currently living and working in Edinburgh near the city centre,
and am so far finding it quite bearable. My main interests lie in
computers and
almost anything technology related, although I can actually have a
conversation about almost anything else without diverting the
subject. I also have an extremely sarcastic sense of humour, which
I admit does irritate a few people at times, but I usually know
when to stop - most people know not to take me too seriously anyway

What I'm doing with my life
I'm currently working away trying desperately to pay a mortgage and
managing to avoid having my home repossessed! So far so
good...

Learning new stuff quickly. Unfortunately I also have a short
attention span, so if I don't find it interesting, I usually end up
forgetting it 2 minutes later :-)
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me
How quiet/shy I am - I can never be the conversation starter,
especially with people I've never met before.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
My 'favourites' tend to change rather frequently, but with books
and films I tend to especially enjoy anything that's either
science
fiction or comedy. Being a bit more specific...
Books: I don't really read so much nowadays, but in the past I used to read quite a lot of Isaac Assimov's books. While not a great fan of horror, I also enjoyed reading books by Stephen King, with The Shining and The Stand being two of my favourites.
Movies/TV: In contrast to saying I enjoy science fiction films, I can't stand to watch Star Wars (Muppets in Space anyone?) and Star Trek but really enjoy Battlestar Galactica and Firefly. I don't have the complete stereotypical geeky interests :-) While I like comedy films, I can't stand most teen-films that claim to belong in this category. To be fair though, I am considerably older than a teenager.
Music: My taste in music is very varied, and probably quite strange. Generally I'll listen to anything that isn't Rap or some pre-manufactured crap that just escaped from X-Factor. I own all three of Natalie Imbruglia's albums, a few Texas ones, Garbage and even Evanescence. I also like most 80's music, but that just makes me sound old if I admit to that... :-|
Food: I'll eat almost anything as long as it doesn't contain fish or mushrooms. To this day, my friends and family are still amazed by how much I can eat and still not put on any weight... they're probably a bit jealous too :P
Bonus Interest!: I may later regret entering this information as it probably makes me sound really geeky, but I'm also really interested in computer games (preferring PC over console games). I tend to prefer RPG games, or in general any game that's had a decent amount of effort put into the storyline. For example, some favourites are Deus Ex, Anachronox, Neverwinter Nights, Portal and the Final Fantasy series. I also hold a strong preference over multiplayer games, particularly ones where you actually have to involve the thought process and not just run around shooting anything that moves.
The above list is by no means exhaustive, and I'm always open to new things. I'd quite happily have a conversation with someone about almost anything that interested them - except for Star Wars :)

The six things I could never do without
Well, without mentioning the obvious answers like
food/water/sleep/etc...
1) A computer with an Internet connection - yes okay, it may be a bit sad and geeky, but hey - that's the way I am!
2) My mobile phone - although I don't use it that much, I always feel lost without a means of contacting people should I need to.
3) Coffee! - I'd probably survive fine without this, but it comes in handy for keeping me awake at work :-)
4) Chocolate - Mmmmm, chocolate... *drools*
5) Er, okay this probably started getting a bit silly after number 2, and I can't think of anything else that isn't the standard sentimental drivel, so I'll just stop here :-)

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here
I have a terrible fear of rejection which results in me being
extremely shy around people I don't know. This does, unfortunately,
sometimes appear as if I'm being rude by not talking to people, but
this honestly isn't the case. As it stands, I've still not managed
to force myself into sending a message to anyone here.
