My Notes edit

My self-summary

I hate this self-summary thing. My vital stats are above and other than that. . . well I'm a Southern girl, born and bred, of Scots-Irish descent. Graduated from UA-Tuscaloosa in '02, went to LA for grad school for a MA in English and bascially got kicked out for being a conservative Christian. Now I'm thinking about going back for a MA in Public History with an eye toward working in a museum.

I read everything with words, especially science fiction, fantasy and alternate history. I write fantasy (hopefully as a pro someday). I'm a big history buff. I've done a lot of work on my family's genealogy and love that kind of puzzle. I do academic-type research for the fun of it.

I have a big extended family and am very close to them. My parents live on a small horse farm with chickens and goats and lots of dogs and cats where I love to spend time. I love the outdoors, but not in an overly athletic way. I just like to travel and absorb the beauty. Nothing beats the mountains in the fall, or the beach at night.

What I'm doing with my life

I'm working in retail right now, since I figured it was a good way to make myself employable anywhere, but I'm going back to school part-time in January. I'm trying to get back into writing, which I haven't done much of for a few years. (My first attempt at grad school really took a lot out of me and I've been recovering for awhile.)

I'm really good at

Just about anything artistic I've ever tried. Music especially runs in my family. School. Not politics. Research. Writing fiction. Decorating my house. Using maps (hey it's a skill! :) Building a fire outdoors. Baking really horrible-for-you desserts.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

My intensity. I've been told I'm intimidating, but really I'm very shy. As for looks, probably my eyes and hair, and to be brutally honest--my chest. I'm well-endowed. It's just genetics, and I don't love it.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: That's pretty impossible to pick a favorite. I loved the Chronicles of Narnia as a kid. (C.S. Lewis was a genius.) Robin McKinley is my favorite fantasy author. Mary Gentle's "Secret History of Burgundy" is the most brilliant alternate history ever written. My list goes on and on.

Movies: Loved Lord of the Rings. 1776 and The Scarlet Pimpernel were my favorites as a kid. I enjoy the Harry Potter movies. I'm looking forward to the next Narnia movie. I have an odd affection for Sliding Doors, and Silence of the Lambs blew my mind when it first came out, because it was the first "grown-up" movie I'd ever seen.

Music: It's like books, to hard to pick a list. Loreena McKennitt, Mozart, Traditional Celtic, Switchfoot, Nickelback, Soundtracks, etc etc.

Food: I LOVE Greek and Lebanese food. And Chinese. And Italian. Otherwise I'm pretty traditional meat-and-potatoes.

The six things I could never do without

My cats, my books, my family, private time, daily beauty (the outdoors, art, music, etc), my laptop

I spend a lot of time thinking about

Politics, right now. My long-term plans. Making myself a better person.

On a typical Friday night I am

Reading a book, watching TV, headed home to the farm, it depends.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

I can't decide whether I like the premature silver streaks in my hair or not.

You should message me if

You're looking for an intellectually stimulating relationship with someone who can sometimes be a challenge.

Note: You should NOT message me if you have a problem with Christians and/or conservatives. If you want a lively debate, I'm all for it. If you want to tell me how stupid or evil I am---been there, heard that, told an entire English Department where they could stuff it.
