Authenticity is key — with friends, lovers, in work and play. Say what you mean while looking them straight in the eyes. Be compassionate above all. Communicate well. Smile! Laugh! How can we have MORE FUN here? Are we learning? Are we adding value to the world, or just consuming it? Make beautiful things. Look good. Have a positive attitude. Participate. Be GAME. We are the background to everyone else's story, after all.
While visiting a museum a few years ago, I walked through an exhibit that illustrated man's until now brief existence on this planet. If all of known time were equivalent to one year, we stepped onto the scene on December 31 at 11:59pm. “Hey, where's the party?” Now while I am a super positive person, I am also keenly aware that humans are basically a scourge on this planet, and there is almost no hope that we can sustain our presence here. (This by no means signals a dour, self-denying existence at all! Au contraire...) So in the meantime...what are we doing here? Are we just some alien art project? Who is driving this space ship? ...and I love not really knowing.
I am from Texas. My mom's side of the family own an alarming number of guns, which I shoot with them on holidays out on our land. My dad (who is no longer married to my mom) is a gay opera director and lives in Chicago. I am the offspring of this clash of cultures, and I think I do it justice.
