Grad School, this is new. For the first time in my life I feel like
people are treating me like an adult, despite the fact that I grew
up, really grew up, eight years ago. Going from well off to poverty
does that to a person, though, and I'm glad my life is almost back
on track.
Who I am is difficult to say, as I am a great many things. I tend
to be quiet, but anyone who knows me can say that. I simply prefer
to think and listen, rather than talk. Sometimes it is not like
that, and I'll become more loquacious, but it has to be the right
subject or mood.
Me, I'm a Philosopher, an Artist, a Musician, and a Scientist. I
see beauty in everything; I argue that reality is subjective. I'm a
dreamer and a thinker, as well as someone who's willing to work
hard to get something done, though I can be quite lazy, as well. I
suppose, however, if you wish to learn more about me, you'll have
to do some work, yourself, to find out.

My self-summary
What I'm doing with my life
I am a Grad Student in the Department of Biological Sciences at
University of Cincinnati. More specifically, I'm studying the DNA
repair mechanisms of the Hyperthermophilic Archaea Sulfolobus
acidocaldarius (wow, the spellchecker hates those words). I suppose
to translate that to English, I'm trying to find out how this
single-celled organism, S. acidocaldarius, repairs its DNA despite
the fact that it normally lives in acidic hot springs where no
other life can survive.
I'm really good at
Learning, thinking, having a positive outlook. I pick up new
activities and excel. I taught myself how to play the piano at a
reasonable level in three months. I learned how to dance, also at a
reasonable level, in the same. My biggest problem is time. I'm very
focused on my teaching and research, so I find it quite difficult
to pursue other activities.
The first thing(s) people usually notice about me
I'm tall, I'm quiet, I have long hair, and I wear a fedora, more
than that I do not know.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food
Are not something I can really list off the top of my head. Hang
around me long enough, and you'll slowly find out.
The six things I could never do without
Air, Water, Reduced Carbon Chains, Salts, Coenzymes, and
Phosphorus, otherwise I can do without almost anything. I'm very
disciplined, for the most part. I suppose all that I couldn't live
without would be my free will (except I'm not sure it exists) and
my mind. I'm very wary of altering my perception because of fear I
will not be the same person afterwards. I don't want to change who
I am except in a few, very minor areas.
I spend a lot of time thinking about
The future, philosophy, the present, DNA repair mechanisms,
whatever I'm doing at the moment, the past, beauty, people, love,
and a whole slew of other things.
On a typical Friday night I am
At the lab until 6:30, then cooking dinner, then watching a movie
or something equally painless, then stretching, and finally trying
to sleep.
The most private thing I'm willing to admit here
I'm divorced. I ran away from home at a young age and got married.
It was a mistake, but it also made me a stronger person, so I don't
feel too bad about it.
