My self-summary Propose an edit
I grew up floating from one army base to another. Spent time in
Germany, California, Hawaii, graduated high school
in Kansas, bumming a few college years in Idaho, and have come to a
halt in Texas. For the moment, at least.
I used to consider myself a writer, but eventually realized that I
was really more of a persistant journaler.
What can I say? It clears my head, and makes me look mysterious and
creative while sitting at Starbucks. I do
occassionally write poetry which might be better classified as "sad
journal entries with line breaks and spotty
punctuation".
My family is close, supportive, and frustrating in that way that
only family can manage to be. My siblings are 6-11
years older, and due to that influence I sometimes come across as
older than I actually am. This lasts until I'm
actually around my brothers or good friends, at which time I revert
back to age 12 and my trusty repetoire of
"your mom" jokes.
I'm really good at Propose an edit
I get along well with just about anybody. I have friends who I have
a lot in common with, and friends I have almost
nothing in common with. I like to appreciate people because of
their differences, and not in spite of them.
I'm pretty fantastic at having long, rambling disagreements about
semantics. I try to keep it at a minimum, since
most people find it unbearably annoying, but sometimes it's
necessary to pin down exactly what your definition of
"is" is.
I make a mean pot of chili. I know people claim to make fantastic
chili all the time, and it's rarely true.
But honestly, my chili's amazing.
My favorite books, movies, music, and food Propose an edit
I've always loved books. Am I the only one that loves the way books
smell? New book smell, used book smell, really really old books
smell? Anyway, a few favorites: To Kill a Mockingbird, Cat's
Cradle, Persepolis, Snow Crash, Rebecca, The Secret History, pulpy
sci-fi and fantasy novels, less pulpy but critically underrated
sci-fi and fantasy novels. All those old, dry novels that everyone
else was bored by in high school I probably enjoyed.
I have a soft spot for zombie and sci fi movies. Also crime movies.
If it's noir-ish or has detectives in it I can be persuaded to
watch it. If it has both I might get a bit giddy. I've seen Moulin
Rouge more times than I should admit. I'm the only person I know
who didn't really like There's Something About Mary, and the only
one I know who's seen Arsenic and Old Lace. There are large gaps in
my movie experience, so I get a lot of dumbfounded stares and "I
can't believe you haven't seen it!" comments.
I listen to music as often as possible during my day. If I can get
away with headphones or a radio on, they're on. I have pretty wide
taste, and while there are plenty of genres I don't listen to
often, I think there's good music in all of them.
Some favorites: New Order, Radiohead, Belly, Cowboy Junkies, The
Pixies, LCD Soundsystem, Josh Ritter, Violent Femmes, Tricky, The
National, Portishead, Andrew Bird, Echo and the Bunnymen
