My self-summary
Write a little about yourself. Just a paragraph will do.
Yeah, I know the screenname is ridiculous. It was kind of an inside joke gone wrong.

I think communication is key. That doesn't just mean clear discussion; it means knowing your own needs, wants, desires, fantasies, and comfort level well enough to communicate them. I will listen to everything you say and intuit some things you don't, but intuition can only take me so far.

I base my actions on a deeply set philosophy: I don't ask anything of anyone else I wouldn't do in a heartbeat.

I will never stop learning. My life goal is to learn 13 languages by the time I die.

Basically, I love to dance and find new adventures and places to explore and fight with foam weapons and play bridge and the and's will keep on going. I live an eclectic lifestyle, and don't mind crossing my comfort zones to find a new frontier to explore. I moved out here from New Jersey with some money, one phone interview, a couple college friends, and hope, simply so that I could live a less static life. I don't intend to meander through my life, wandering wheresoever the wind bloweth; I intend to hitch sail and bring that horizon to me.

I am a writer, a philosopher, and a tyrant
What I’m doing with my life
Don’t overthink this one; tell us what you’re doing day-to-day.
Challenging myself and finding the beauty in life. I'm trying out new things and old things: bowling, blues dancing, lindy, swing, foam fighting (Belegarth and Amtgard), shooting pool, Ceili dancing, walking around on my own, and anything new that comes my way.

I'm currently a web developer kicking ass at his job, but I am in the process of becoming a writer. In all practicality, this means I'll be coding for the next 5-10 years while my prose catches up with my ideas. Hence all the roleplaying: I enjoy it, but it also forces me to engage with characters on a character level. My characterization sucks right now, and nothing helps that better than filling out a character through backstory and roleplay.
I’m really good at
Go on, brag a little (or a lot). We won’t judge.
Bridge, swing/lindy, waltz, making steak, conversation on hypothetical topics, actual conversation, philosophical conversation, philosophical bullshitting, solving problems (real-life and analytical), humanistic psychology, remaining calm under pressure, recognizing people from the way they walk, and picking good music.

I've impressed a couple people at how well I am picking up Ceili dancing, so that may soon go into the above list.
The first things people usually notice about me

The hair. It's amazing how good a foolish man can look when he listens to his lady friends. In the past people have noticed my writing style and my ability to geek out about many different subjects, but I like to hope my smile is also one of the first things people notice.
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food
Help your potential matches find common interests.
Books: The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Ender's Game, Neverwhere, The Mists of Avalon, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, Stranger in a Strange Land, Robin Hobb's Assassin's trilogy and Ship trilogy, The Giver, The Foundation Trilogy, Naomi Novik's Temeraire Series. Jim Butcher rules. Memory & Dream by Charles de Lint.

Movies: The Shawshank Redemption, Lord of the Rings, Minority Report, The Fifth Element, The Matrix, Dogma. Gladiator, Braveheart, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Spirited Away, The Dark Knight; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Wall-E, House of Flying Daggers, The Princess Bride. Lots of anime (not yaoi, though I've seen it).

TV: Battlestar Galactica, Fringe, Firefly, Buffy, Dollhouse, Rome, Family Guy

Music: good music. I tend to enjoy rock and electronica in general, but I've been known to enjoy some of the better hip-hop or country songs out there. I've never heard a song from Nightwish that I haven't wanted to listen to at least 20 times. I also tend towards some of the softer spectrum. Enya works for me. Towards the awesome soundtrack spectrum, ES Posthumus is incredible. ES Posthumus is my current Pandora station. Additionally:
Lacuna Coil, Linkin Park, Amethystium, Blackmore's Night, Delerium, Dropkick Murphy's, other Celtic music, 90's rock.

Food: Italian and Chinese food never do me wrong (unless it's really cheap takeout Chinese). Sushi, good deli sandwiches, and Indian are close seconds. Ethiopian tends to be hit or miss, but in NYC and Iowa City they've been hits. If you know any good places around here, let me know!
The six things I could never do without
Think outside the box. Sometimes the little things can say a lot.
1. Family
2. Friends
3. Love
4. Time for the previous three.
5. Bridge (the card game)
6. Computers (to help connect the previous five).
I spend a lot of time thinking about
Global warming, lunch, or your next vacation… it’s all fair game.
How to make myself and my friends happier. How to bring more peace and acceptance into this world. How to go about living my life in a way that most represents who I am and the core values that I hold. How we are becoming a more humanitarian and cooperative society. What do to this weekend with the people I care about.
On a typical Friday night I am
Netflix and takeout, or getting your party on — how do you let loose?
Hanging with friends, gaming, going out to a movie, hanging into the city until 6 AM, or falling into bed early so that I can be well rested for the 8 PM-6AM stint on Saturday night.
The most private thing I’m willing to admit
I’m an empty essay… fill me out!
I am probably one of the straightest men on the planet.

Also, I have ADD, which can be good in that it leads to finding connections that are hard to see rather than distractibil... ooh shiny.

Also, really, just ask. Ask me something you don't think I'd ever answer in a million years. I'll probably answer it.

Offer a few tips to help matches win you over.
You enjoy going on adventures, discussing everything and nothing until 4 AM; you're geeky, smart, like to dance to swing, lindy, blues, etc. or teach me a dance I don't know yet. If you think Robert Heinlein was amazing, despite being hampered by his then-current views of women in society. If you think you can keep up with my speedy brain. If that last sentence made you think "let's see if he can keep up with mine."

Or, more simply: if you're interested in making new friends. And since you got this far: my name's Jon, and I approve this message.

Bonus: if you know the reference of my three "adjectives."
