My Notes edit

My self-summary

PREAMBLE: This is just for fun, but everything in this page is true to life. Serious propositions will not be treated as such.

I'm a recent graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, with a double-major in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics. I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in CS.

Lately I'm becoming too serious about life; I'm diving head-first into the real world and it is scaring me. Weekends are my escape and I try to make the most of them. The tricky part is finding things to do! I lead backpacking trips for the Pitt Outdoors Club and am active in Circle K, Math Club, and Panther Bowling.

I'm not interested in a fling; I like the important things in life to be constant, and the fun things in life to come as they are. Relationships (friends and further) are important to me, and I see these things being constant for years to come.

What I'm doing with my life

There's the /truth/, and then there's the *truth*.

The /truth/: I'm not really sure what I'm doing with my life. I went to college because it doesn't make sense not to; it's expected. I go to work for the same reason. I think I want to stay in school for a while, work in industry for a while, then teach for a while. Anything can happen. I constantly think about how I'm screwing up my life. I procrastinate a lot. My room is a mess. I spend hours fiddling around with origami and old pokemon games (red/blue is still the best). I spend most of my free time on xkcd fora.

The *truth*: This summer (May 08 - August 08) I hiked the Appalachian Trail. Now I am working 40 hours a week while taking courses at the University of Pittsburgh toward a Master's degree in Computer Science. Forty years later I will retire and live in the woods, in a cabin I built with my own bare hands. Possibly sooner.

I'm really good at

Calculus, wilderness survival, and being shy, nervous, and awkward. I'm really good at that last one.

I'm really not good at: Remembering names. Telling stories. Walking slowly.

The first thing(s) people usually notice about me

I'm tall and skinny. I'm butt-ugly and I smell bad.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Books: Ender's Game series, Discworld series, Hitchhiker's Guide, GEB, House of Leaves

Movies: A Beautiful Mind, 12 Monkeys, Army of Darkness, Wayne's World

TV: Morning news.

Music: 60's - 80's Classic rock. Rap and Country fans need not apply.

Food: Anything that requires chopsticks.

Webcomic: xkcd.

The six things I could never do without

Family, Friends, and Fun. Silence, Health, and the Outdoors.

I spend a lot of time thinking about

My mind is usually a blank slate, but when there is some activity, I think about optimizing my daily routines for time- and resource-efficiency. However none of this comes to fruition due to lack of motivation.

On a typical Friday night I am

Getting ready for Saturday's weekend adventure.

The most private thing I'm willing to admit here

I used to be that annoying runt that nobody liked in middle school.

When I was 13, I read A Child Called It, and I cried. A lot. I have A Man Named Dave on my bookshelf but I decided to not read it.

You should message me if

You enjoy kite-flying and thunderstorms, but not at the same time.
